  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Head unit options

I don't like OEM blue screen of my 2009 genesis too. So i was looking for aftermarket devices, but soon i found out, that there is only uNavi.
Since uNavi's price is too high and I hate winCE,
I've made my own project for android tablet (Nexus 7). It takes me 2 month to make this project, but now I have all I need and going to complite it in 2, maybe 4 weeks. On the video you see real-time climate control idication on android tablet. The more things coming soon. Enjoy the video:

Now i'm pretty good in microcontrollers programming, java and android, thanks to this project.
The full price for hardware I used - is about 100$. Plus I've bought display frame for tablet install for a 50$ from ebay. So it is like 10 times cheaper than uNavi. ;)

Very nice work! You are onto something there!

HOLY MOLY
That is hot!!
That would be awesome to an aftermarket alarm in my opinion. If it were possible, I would like to be a tester with that. i have a spare Amazon 7" laying around and I install systems/alarms often. How would that be possible?
View violated zones, unlock the car, trunk, etc. VERY VERY nice job.

Hello!

Thank you for your offer! First of all I want to explain few things in my project so it can be understood by any person, even if he is not familiar with programming and ingeneering.

1. Android tablet is receiving/sending commands via bluetooth connected to special hardware. Hardware consists of two Arduino UNO R3 modules (I am using chainise clone), can bus shield for Arduino Uno, bluetooth HC-05 module (or any other analog), 12v to 5v dc converter and some connecting wires may be needed too. In other words: to make Android app works on any Android device (running Android 4.1 or higher) you have to buy some hardware. You can find everything on aliexpress. It will cost less than 50$.
Can bus shield with Arduino Uno connected to can bus of Genesis (using 2 wires behind blue screen or cd changer unit – to can high pin and can low pin).

If everything above is clear for you, than we can go to the next point:

2. I have made a firmware (sketch) for Arduinos. One of them receiving information from can bus and sending it to android device. Another Arduino receiving information from android device (buttons pressed) and sending it to the head unit.

3. Following my instructions you can easyly install all hardware and software by yourself.

4. There is a little chance that 2012 Genesis can structure is a bit different from 2008-2010 (my car is 2009). So you may need to make some can sniffing (using hardware mentioned above and my software). I can give you complite instructions to make things clear and you probably complite searching for current can bus ID's in a couple hours.
5. I don't have XM-radio and bluetooth (in Russia I am originally from there is no XM radio, and my car doesn't have bluetooth). To make it work with my android App, you will need to make some recearch for those two Can Id's too. After that I will add those functions to android program. As I sad before, It is pretty easy to do with my instructions.
6. As any other work, mine is now free. I spend few month for development and still working on it. So my software will cost 100$ for the first person, who would like to be a tester. After I manage to complite all systems works fine, the price will be higher. Anyway full price of complite system (including all hardware & software) will be lower than any midle-end aftermarket head unit price that you can find.

If everything mentioned above is fine for you feel free to PM me.
