  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I had an incident where all components in the head unit froze up. After a few hours it went back to normal and everything was working fine. When I reported it to the service department, they said this should not happen on a new car and it should be replaced. They ordered a new head unit and sent mine back. When they installed the new unit it would not work. They also tried to take units out of other cars and theywould not work either. The car has been there for nine dqys and yet another head unit is coming tomorrow. I dread the cqll that this too did not work. I really love my car and hope it does not come down to Lemon Law time. Has anyone had a similar experience and what was done to alleviate it?

Have you tried another dealer? As many have found the quality/competence of dealers widely varies.

Jerome,

There a thread with about 10 pages discussing this very thing..."Head Unit Problems". You can read there as well. Lots of info.

Tell them it's the amp, not the head unit. Might not work 100% of the time, but more often than not. If the service people would just call Hyundai, they would probably recommend that.

It was the solution for my car.

this is my story ..if you something that works let me know ha,ha,ha ...
well guys I have a 2010 v8 w/tech & 7000 miles ...I had the car at dealer waiting for 3 weeks for them to get new head unit !!! they gave me a loaner , but after going back so many times to try and fix it ..it never works right ! I gave up. ALL THE STUFF GOES ON AND OFF ,sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I sent a email to them and still waiting for a fix but I won't let my car sit there and drive the loaners... THE SYSTEM IS JUST CRAP AND MY DEALER CAN'T FIX IT. So I drive the car the way it is and happy not to waist any more time on the electronics that they don't know how to fix !!!I HAVE A HEADSET WITH A WIRE FOR THE PHONE AND BATTERY POWER SPEAKERS FOR MY IPOD WHEN THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK !!!!!!!

Really, is it me?

Ikeym, did you bother to read the post right above your post?

There is a lot of wisdom on these threads, titles of threads clearly indicating the subject matter.

For instance-I had a problem with the steering wheel. I glanced around the site and lo and behold there was a thread with the same issues as I was having. I read the thread (novel idea, I know) and therein contained the solution to my problem, tried what was suggested and voila, problem solved. I didn't even have to post because the answer was already there.

I'm going to tell you again what worked for me when my car had the same issues as yours. Tell them to call Hyundai 's service line (I'm saying this just in case a newer solution has come along in the last two years). The AMP was replaced on my car and it solved the problem for the rest of the time I owned the car (2 years). The head unit was replaced multiple times and that didn't work. Replacing the amp has worked for many others as well.

I gave the agency your Amp suggestion yesterday. they have another head unit, supposedly coming in today. ( It has been scheduled since last Tuesday)
If that doesnt work, I suppose they will order an Amp. If it comes from Hyundai as slowly as things have gone, they are fast approaching Florida lemon law, which is fifteen days without your car. ( today is ten days)
The agency is working as hard as they can but the parent company is dragging. supposedly, when they are installing the new unit they will be connected with Hyundai to guide them. First, the unit has to arrive.

Jerome,

I understand your frustration, I went through every bit of it. Hyundai even gave me another Genesis as a replacement which unfortunately did the same thing. But you know, I really liked the car so I stuck with it.

My car was in the shop for yet another head unit replacement and I was told they were going to change the amp. When I came to get the car, the service guy told me that the amp they sent was different then the one the car came with, so he didn't install it thinking the wrong one was sent.

When the audio malfunctioned again, I brought the car in, and the service manager had already called Hyundai about the amp they sent, and he said they were adamant that the amp had to be changed and to use that one (this is what I was told-if they were feeding me a line, so be it). I have read on the other threads that there is a different amp with 2 different chips or something like that-you'll have to read and see if you can find it.

Once that amp was changed, my car operated as it should and I never had any more problems at all. I'll warn you that for many this was the solution, but there is one guy here posting that it wasn't.

I'll also add that the mechanic made a remark that I cannot recall verbatim-but he seem surprised and said something like the amp is not just an amp. Got the impression he thought the head unit contained all the components and it didn't.

Good luck to you. and I hope they listened to what you told them. I hope this extended explanation helps.

jerome..please let me know if the repair worked and your system is working . I would love to know because I really gave up on my unit. and I have been living with IPOD GETTING LOCKED UP MOST OF THE TIME,BLUETOOTH GOING OUT OF PAIR,SOUND OFF (NEED TO PUSH POWER TO GET IT BACK) thanks so much ...ikeym

Unit was fixed. Agency put in a new unit under supervision of Hyndai tech support on phone. Everything seems to be working fine a week and a half later.
