  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlight Assembly Cracking and Broken Seal

...
So now, my new headlights have arrived two days later, and tomorrow morning, I'll be swapping out the old winker for a fresh, crack-free shine. Who knew car troubles could be so... expedited?
See if you can persuade them to not tighten the screws to full factory torque and use some blue Loctite on the screws instead. Maybe then the new one will last longer than a year...

Man, that's great to hear a good story every once in a while... or more like every blue moon. Ha ha. But great to hear. May I ask you how many miles on your car? And also suggest what Joegr said above, to avoid the same fate later on, probably out of full warranty... plus ask dealer to loosen the other one a little, to prevent it from cracking too. Anyway, if removing the bumper was easier on vehicles, I'd do it, to loosen those darn screws/bolts, but don't want to do that. What I always do is avoid twisting my vehicles' frame by avoiding taking steep entrances sideways, and just going around, where most of the times there's a flatter one. That also could help prevent glass breakage, and other problems if the frame becomes a little less stiff after many such twisting events. And the colder it is, the worse it gets for plastic and glass alike. Maybe that doesn't do much, but it can't hurt for sure.

Recalls are only issued when there's a safety issue, so I really doubt this problem would amount to that. But what is absolute crap is this not being covered under warranty. Hopefully enough people complain to force Genesis to acknowledge it via a TSB, so any future occurrences are promptly covered under warranty. What will suck is having to pay for a headlight assembly after warranty. I might not keep mine after that, but unfortunately, every freaking car is plagued by similar crap, so hard to find anything reliable nowadays. Sad times.
Tsb?

Everyone. here is for sure info you will appreciate.

Probably found the reason why the "optic" of all 4 of my headlights went "coucou" at my car first winter.

you can find this info in your Owner Guide.

Hello everyone.
Little follow up... for my GV60....
Since "at its first winter"... Condensation has forme inside both headlamp with the result of cracking all 4... (well... 2 sets) they will need to be replaced. Price.... 5000$ /CAN EACH set. Moral of the story, ASA you see Condensation forme inside your headlamp... go directly to the dealer with your owner guide at the right page and force them to inspect while your on warranty.

Hello everyone.
Just a little follow up on that Condensation inside my ALL of my headlamp
Funny enough, Genesis are aware of the problem since... January of 2023. look at the Technical Bulletin.
enjoy.

MY GV80 notified my to check the driver side headlight to find all functions inoperable and dripping water on the inside of the lenses. Taking it to the dealership for repairs, I was told the warranty would not cover the "damage" since something must have hit the front of the car to crack the edges of the lenses and cause the lens seal to fail allowing water inside. There is not so much as a scratch on the car so the damage could not have been caused by an impact. The dealership then suggested that rocks or some type of road debris was the culprit which means the debris hit both the left and right headlight assembly edges in exactly the same place at exactly the same time which is almost impossible. My only conclusion now is that a design or manufacturing flaw caused the edges of the lenses to crack and the lens seals to fail. Has anyone else had a similar problem which represents $7000+ in replacement costs?
Yes, I've been fighting with Genesis since December for the same issue with the headlights cracking. It is not from rock debris. If it was my bumper would have damages. I'm here in California and will be in Small Claims Court this coming Tuesday. I have a G70 2.0. I feel that the judge will use common sense and see that it should be under warranty. I do not know what Genesis will present at the hearing. The headlights are a quarter of the price of the car if I were to sell it. I will sell the car after it's paid for. The body shop that I visited said don't buy a Hyundai/Genesis. Wish me luck.

Make sure to bring that document i posted... it is the proof that they knew about the problem (crack mentionned) since jan 2023. I also am going to court with this for both headlamp.

If your crack are somehow in line from one another (top to bottom headlamp) that prove that it impossible to be hazzard from road.

Same thing happened to my G70. Dealership said Genesis will not fix or replace headlights due to cracks. Took the matter to Genesis and they said they will not fix it. Took to a body shop and had the front bumper removed and found the cracks were coming from where the screws attach the headlights. All the cracks were coming from where the screws are. Body shop said it's a manufacture defect. I filed with NHTSA #11572213. Will take Genesis to small claims court.
Just got back from small claims court. I won. Genesis will pay for replacement of both headlights. If you're in California take them to small claims court. I went to a body shop and had them removed the bumper and took photos and statement from them that the bumper is intact and has no rock chips. Photos of the cracks and bumper were submitted as evidence. Judge wanted to see the bumper to bumper warranty. I did not have it and the judge allowed me search on the phone and see looked at it. It was a warranty claim. I feel so relieved. They have 30 days to pay. My small claim# 24PDSC09747.

If they just would have paid for it, I would not be here talking about this. Talk to Genesis and have them pay for it. If they don't just tell them you'll take them to small claims court and tell them that some else won a similar case. Still selling after it's paid for. They really left a bad impression. I had 2013 Lexus GS 350 F sport and heard a rattle. It was out of warranty and Lexus still fixed a bad seal on the moon roof. No charge. Going back to Lexus.

I applaud you sir/madam for going through with this. A win for you and the community. Good for you. I've just noticed the dreaded condensation on my own '22 and am prepared to fight the dealer.

I have a 2023 GV80 with 29k miles, and my right headlight is cracked with condensation. Took it to a Genesis dealership, and their first assessment was wear and tear, stating warranty would not cover. $5k!! The next day, they tell me one of their service techs specializing in Genesis vehicles from other shops looked more closely, and it's a manufacturer issue with how tight the screws were, so they are repairing for free!! Thank God!! This was in Mesquite, TX.

We are livin in tough times when a single headlight costs 5k to fix.

The module under the headlight takes on moisture, and causes the running light to malfunction, and the turn signal along with it.

What county in California? Do you have the files? I'm going through the same issue and trying to get it resolved.
