Headlight Condensation

I have the same problem on my GV70, took it to the dealership and they knew immediately what was going on. It seem my vehicle was known to have this issue on the driver side light housing. Apparently there was a bad seal, I have no cracks or rock chips on my lights due to having place film covering over them for protection as soon as I bought the car. They order me a new light housing immediately without any issues, all covered under warranty.

My 2023 G70 I purchased new developed very heavy condensation in both headlamps at about the same time. Service Advisor at Rick Case Genesis here in Florida admitted they've had issues with ''some of our model's". Upon inspection they found a tiny, tiny scratch in the right headlamp that I have no doubt was there from the get-go. Told me the warranty would absolutely not cover that headlamp due to that scratch. So....this scratch is the cause of condensation in the R headlamp...so then buddy what is the cause of the L headlamp? Hummm? Anyone else have issues with this?

I have the GV60 and I got home Sunday after driving all day in the rain. My passenger side head light is full of condensation, and they are picking it up in a couple weeks. I better not here the same story you got, because I don't believe your problem could possibly be a scratch in both headlights. I would at least call Genesis and complain! Maybe you should post the problem on the Internet and identify your dealer.

So they - the dealer - said it was normal to have condensation in the headlight on occasion and they checked the lights and there were no signs of water. Granted, I use this car maybe once a week and I honestly don't think I have ever used it in the rain so it may only be from washing the car that caused it. I'll keep an eye on it since rainy season is coming to see if it happens after a rain storm as well.

In March something hit my car on the highways going out 75 MPH and put a hairline crack in my passenger headlight and scratched my paint a little. Stated getting condensation so I had to bite the bullet and spend $1,600 to replace it. A relative owns a body shop and the $1,600 was their price for the part with no labor.

I’ve had 3 reputable body shops in Canada price out the headlight and its $4400 CDN plus install.
I won my battle with Corporate Warranty so they are replacing.

I fought with genesis for 2 months- Genesis told me that the dealer should have replaced the headlights under the warrantee to begin with. Dealer told me I must have "hit something" or a "bird flew into the headlights" On Both sides. Bird must be an acrobat. This is a well known defect and both dealership and Genesis are aware. I would contact Genesis customer care---they are great and helped me get replacements-no charge--- Don't let the dealer aggravate you. Some of them are full of s-it

My dealership continues to drag its feet after months. They dried out the headlights and reinstalled them, claiming they were fixed. Unfortunately, they were fogged again by the time I got home. The next step is to install new moisture absorbent packs in both at my appointment next month and see if it fixes the problem. Genesis corporate has been unhelpful in all of this by blaming the dealership while the dealership blames corporate. In the end, it seems they want to delay the fix as much as possible until the stress cracks appear and then decline coverage due to "damage". After 3 fixes on the transmission, 2 locking rear diffs, and now a vicious rattle from the rear spoiler, I think it is time to call it a lemon and find a different, more reliable brand to drive.

Just called dealer for the same issue. Headlights are on back order as bunch of customers having the same problem in Canada. Dealership said they'll cover it under the warranty. I'll sell this vehicle the day I get a good offer.

I am a master Hyundai/Genesis tech at Stivers Hyundai/Genesis located in Columbia, South Carolina.

Personally I have done many of these, there is a TSB where Genesis wants you to run the headlights on high beam for a minimum of 30 minutes, if condensation does not clear, we order the affected headlamps under warranty, barring any obvious damage.

If any other dealer is pushing off as external damage, then they are wrong.

I do these all the time.

Do you know if there are defects in the headlight and the replacements solve it or will it just come back one day with the newly installed headlights?

So far, with as many headlights as I have replaced, I have not seen any come back.

Genesis knew it was a problem back when the Elantras had a TSB to install a new silicone packet to absorb moisture.

The fix for Genesis was copy the TSB but if the 30 minute high beam fix did not work, just replaced the affected headlights.

The difference between the Elantras (and any Hyundai except for certain models/trim) is that they use either Bi-Xenon projector style headlights or Halogen projector style headlights.

They put off a lot of heat, and will typically clear the condensation, LED lighting on the other hand does not get hot enough to clear it out.

I’m pretty sure it’s Mobis’s fault, it seems most of the issues on these cars stems from Mobis parts (think Equus air suspension) while anything made from other manufacturers generally hold up pretty good.

As far as I am aware the only way I personally was able to get the silicone packets was through the TSB for the Elantra, if they sold them individually as a call out, I was not informed.

I can tell you that it is pretty much worthless to replace the packets, you would end up replacing them pretty much every month or so depending on where you live.

I’m starting to think the silicone packet was installed from factory just for the transport from Korea to the U.S. I’m not aware of any headlight issues in Korea.

While the Stinger and G70 are clones, the Stinger as far I as know, does not have full LED lighting, so the silicone packets may fare better in those headlight assemblies.

Honestly, they just need to install little fans that blow outward into a drain hose, that would eliminate all the condensation problems.
