  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlight issues

Sounds familiar. I've been having that problem for about a month. When I look at the 4.3" lcd screen it flashes a change in the light status and it only happens when I turn the turn signal on part way. It's usually more of a flash for me than actually staying off (though tonight it did stay off for about 15 seconds). Thanks to the original poster for their post. I suspect we will be getting a recall notice on this one soon!

Happened to me for the first time when making a left turn the other night. I never had this happen on my 2015 in the 19 months I had it. I did have it happen once on a loaner 2015 as well. Not a good thing!

For what its worth, I had to basically force the dealers hand by emailing the sales department as if I was interested in a new Genesis and where it asked what I was interested in, I wrote " HELP, MY HEADLIGHTS KEEP SHUTTING OFF ON MY NEW GENESIS".. In addition to email Genesis s NA.. They know about it, but will only address it if you push the issue IMO. Its been 5 months and no problems since they changed the multi-function switch.

Had mine at the dealer, they could not replicate the issue. I called Hyuandai Customer Care, first time I've used them, they have special menu option that takes you to a unit for Genesis/Equ owners, felt like I was treated very well. They didn't commit on the call to fixing it but the dealer late told me they would change out the multi switch unit.

I've been driving it about a week, no issues.

The dealer also said that they had to verify that the part had been produced within a certain date range when it came in before doing the install.

This problem is not rare given all the comments here, and it's potentially dangerous.

Thats great you got it taken care of.. Hopefully people down the road will have an easier time of it. I can honestly say the dealership experience I had suc*ed.

I Have a 2015 Genesis 3.8 with the ultimate package and the headlights in auto mode at night suddenly go on and off a few times leaving me in the dark 100% blind, i drive a very dangerous road. I have it going to the delaer on the 12th will re-post any findings.

I have a 2015 3.8 sedan with the Ultimate package. On multiple occasions with the headlight switch set to "auto", the headlights will just shut off for around 3-5 seconds then flash back on. Wont do it when set to "on". This has been happening since I owned the car ( almost a year). Diagnosing an issue like this can be tough for most techs so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it. Dealer said to video when it happens. Like I can do that while driving ! I asked how that would help them diagnose it.. it would only validate my claim.

Did you find the solution to the headlight problem ? I'm having this issue with 2015 Genesis.

Same thing happened to me multiple times at night and was bit dangerous as I was driving on a road with no street lights. I think that the solution is to install a dash cam, wait until it causes an accident and get money from Hyundai......

You need to make a complaint to corporate Hyundai the dealer knows about the problem but doesn’t want to shell out the cash to fix it. I argued with the dealer for a month then made a complaint claim got it fixed that week. It needs a new switch once they replaced works great, never have to take it off auto. Definitely a safety issue.

this is an old thread but lights would turn off randomly and would come back on when tapping the light stalk. it progressively got worse where it would happen once a while but was happening more frequently. took video and showed the service adviser at the dealer and they replaced the stalk under warranty. even gave me a rental for few days until the part came in as it was a safety issue. no problems since.

I emailed Hyundai NA and complained about it. Same here. Set to "auto" is when it does it. Not when set to " on". If thats what I have to do to stop it I will. But it negates having the auto features then. Not to mention, what if it is an indication of deeper issues.

Same here -- December 2019 - 2015 Genesis. Wrote to Hyundai NA today, contacted my dealer and luckily I was able to get 30 seconds of video as it occurred multiple times. Will post when it gets resolved.

Realize this is an older thread, but a recurring issue... my wife's 2015 3.8 started with just randomly turning off lights while in auto mode, but only when she activated the turn signal. I already had vehicle scheduled to go to dealer's shop for repair based on the TSB linked below. (As of last night, the issue compounded to lights turning off, while driving 60mph on a dark road, and 'auto' not being selectable on the onscreen menu.) While researching the issue prior to contacting dealer, I came across this TSB which was issued June, 2020 (and extends warranty on the multifunction switch to 15 years, unlimited mileage):
