Headlight off delay...

I have been driving my Genesis 4.6 for a little over a month, and continue to be very pleased with the auto.

I noticed recently that the headlights go off immediately after turning off the ignition. On my other cars, there is normally a delay, or at least an option for a delay, for the lights to remain on for about 30 seconds as a safety feature.

I have looked at the Genesis manual and the menu options, but cannot fine that configuration item. Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the club. I have a 2010 3.8 Tech my headlights stay on for a couple of minutes after turning the car off. Do you keep the headlight selector in the auto position?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it is in the auto position. Perhaps I need to visit my local dealer to have them check the system.

If I recall, the "auto" is for auto-ON... on the 2009's, I believe they shut off as soon as the car is turned off.

Apparently this changed in 2010.

You are correct LLT. The 2009's do not have the delay.

I've seen some aftermarket kits that will allow short delays with headlights. No idea how easy an install it would be, but I assume its plug and play. Its not a feature I've ever had on a car, stock or not.

Really? The Genesis is the first modern car I had that didn't have it. The first car I remember having it was my 1992 Olds 98 Touring Sedan. Every car since then has had it as well.

Thanks for all the replies. I talked to the local Hyundai service department today, and they check with the techs who thought it was an option that they could configure. Plan to stop by their dealership next week, so will know for sure if they can set if for me or not.

I agree with some of the comments. I can not remember when I had a car that did not have a delayed headlight shut-off. Even my wife's Veracruz has that, and it has some really quirky configuration issues from my perspective.

Just got back from the dealership, and yes, you guys are right, it is an option for the 2010 models, but not a configurable option - even by the techs - for the 2009 version.
