Headlight Skew

I just bought a new Genesis and don't often need to drive at night. When I did, I noticed that the light cast by my headlights doesn't match up evenly as it transitions from the driver's side to the passenger's side.

I thought I'd make sure this isn't a quirk of the Genesis design before I bring it up to the service department. Here are some pictures to show what I mean.

I have a 2010 and was thinking of the same thing. Mine doesn't go evenly as well. I was thinking it was normal, but let's hear what others have to say?

Also, do you have the auto leveling and cornering or something? do you know if our lights are supposed to turn as you turn the steering? i think mine does the leveling but can't really tell, if it is turning when i turn my steering.

Hmm... wonder if that's done purposely so as to not blind oncoming traffic with your HID's....

Could be, but I don't recall this type of unevenness in the 5-series I drove years ago (when the xenon bulbs were new). I also don't recall seeing something similar in newer model cars, either.

Kuga, since you have the same question/"problem," it must be a conscious design choice for the reason Ruissimo stated. I might just have to do some adjusting myself

EDIT: I should probably add that I'm driving a 2011 4.6.

I'm pretty sure mine do the exact same thing, but I don't have a good picture of it yet. I'll see if I can take one. 2010 V8 Tech for the record. I noticed it at one point but just attributed it to part of the adaptive headlamps system, maybe I'm wrong. I'll look soonish.

This is normal. My 2011 v8 does it; my 2008 Mercedes with the HIDs did it, my old es330 (2006) with HIDs did it as well. Its not so much the xenon part as much as it seems to be any car with projector lenses. Earlier cars with xenon bulbs didn't have lenses so the light just went all over the place. So either I had a horde of defective cars or this is normal lol...

This is normal. My Lexus IS250 did this as well. It's kinda hard to explain but each headlights have that cut off line where the light curves in the middle. When you shine your headlight against a wall (or a garage door), it's easy to see them.

Wait, I take this back. I looked at your second photo and they should not be like that at all. The headlights should be leveled at all times. Take your car to the service department and they will fix it very quickly. They will take the bumper off and adjust the left or the right one to the factory standard height. If you have an auto leveling HID's, they may actually order a whole new headlight because it means one of your headlights isn't moving up and down.

My Acura was the same. Its normal so not to blind oncoming drivers

i have a 2009 and it is the same way. ive thought it is the way by design for a certain reason. doesn't bother me but would be nice to have an answer on this.....

I don't think it's normal at all.
Light pattern being like this; __/-- is normal, but two headlights aren't lined up.
One is aiming properly on the wall up ahead, but the other one is shooting on the ground 30 feet ahead. That's not right.
Have your headlights aimed at the dealer.

I haven't noticed this in my Genesis because I seldom drive at night on dark roads where you would notice this. But my Azera was just like this - the service dept explained that the purpose of the pattern is to prevent blinding oncoming drivers.
