  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2010 4.6 and all the sudden my headlights stay on when set to auto unless I lock with the fob. And I've waited 15+ minutes to confirm. Did I miss something in the manual? Am I going crazy? All help is appreciated.

Sounds like the outdoor light sensor be dead.

Are you saying the lights stay on after the car is shut off? If so, contact your dealer.

Our 2011 has also started doing the same. Sometimes the auto lights work and sometimes they don't. One time I finally shut them off after an hour.

The driver's door sensor/switch is also failing as it sometime doesn't know the door is open. The interior lights want come on and the door ajar warning on the dash doesn't light. Goes back to the dealer next Monday.

make sure you dont have anything on the dash blocking the little blinking red LED on drivers side. this is the anti-theft indicator, but is also used as a photosensor for the headlights, fogs, and tail lights. if anything is blocking light from getting to it, it will think its night and keep your lights on

If the engine is shut-off, then the lights should also be off regardless of blocking.

Check your door switch. 96 Avalon did this when the door switch was stuck. Car didn't know that you opened and closed the drivers door.

Dropped car off yesterday. They said the driver's door swich was bad and ordered a new one for deliver and installation today. They also believe this will fix the headlights staying on issue.

I'm glad that fixed it but I'm always a bit torn with simple little things. Part of me is glad when it's a quick & simple fix but part of me is mad that, especially on a premium vehicle, when something simple fails.

At 3:30 yesterday afternoon (bright sunshine) my wife was following me home. For the most of the trip we were headed south except for a 10 mile stretch on I85 through Charlotte where we were headed NE with the sun to our backs. When we turn onto I85 and heading NE I noticed her (Genesis) headlights come on. I called and asked why and she said she didn't touch them that they were on automatic. They stayed on for a minute or two then went off for a minute or two and repeated this cycle for 10 miles. We we turn south they stopped coming on.

Even though the headlight sensor was not in direct sunlight (sun to our backs) there is no reason for the the lights to come on at 3:30 on a bright sunny day.

If anything I'd say I have the opposite complaint that they do not come on early enough as the sun fades.

If the lights are constantly repeating a on/off cycle I'm wondering if you have something else going on.
