  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

headlights

As for the auto level. It only does this when I start the car up and the headlight switch is in AUTO. If I start car up, and then turn on the headlights, they do not auto level. Also not a big deal for me, however tomorrow when I get the oil changed, I will get dealer to check it out and if it is something simple, like a plug not plugged in, I'll let them correct it. If it is complicated, I will get it taken care of after I return from my April trip.

The AFLS does auto adjust your lights each time you start the engine. It only takes a few seconds for it to do its thing. If you start your car and the lights switch is in the "off" setting, quickly turn the lights on you will catch the auto leveling in progress.

OK, I will try it tonight.

I have 3.8 with Tech pack and fancy headlights that dance and do great job except that they seem to be aimed too low. Bayway Ric, I note in your detailed response earlier related to air suspension that "there are 4 sensors for the height adjustment on the lights. Our version of the car only has two." Does this mean that the self leveling position can be adjusted up or down? Does anyone know if the self-leveled position can be adjusted? Thanks.

I thought mine were aimed too low as well. Especially driving down a hill it was very easy to out-drive the headlights. I looked up how to to adjust the lights and saw the bit about electronic adjustment you mentioned above, but I didn't go that route since I didn't have the dealership equipment.

I ended up manually adjusting the vertical reference plane for the lights using a screwdriver and the adjustment screw just behind the lights. It's easy to find. I moved mine up about a degree or so, just enough to bring the top of the terminator line of my HIDs about to the horizon. It's been GREAT. I can see much better now and I've never been flashed in six months of driving with them like this.

The electronic AFLS system adjusts from the reference angle set by this screw. My lights still move normally and adjust themselves every time I turn the car on, and always return to my new, higher position.

Hope this helps!

I was wrong. The AFLS works fine. When I started out this morning, it was still dark and as I came up to a corner, while still moving, I saw the lights move to the right, and when I almost came to a stop, I saw the lights move to the straight ahead position.

They work correct, so I did not even mention it to the dealer.

I turned the adjustable screw clockwise about a quarter turn and it seemed that there wasn't any change in height of the light. I'm not really sure which was to actually turn the screw either. I was only able to turn the screw a little bit since I don't have a short enough screwdriver, but can get one.

Which direction did you turn the adjustable screw and how much do you think you turned the screw ie; quarter turn, half turn etc.?

Thanks in advance:)

Thanks Jonah, exactly what I hoped to learn. Will take your words on headlight aiming adjustment to dealer tomorrow a.m. on previously scheduled service call on this issue. Will let you know outcome. Liked this forum as a lurker. Love it as member.

I parked my car about 7 feet back from my garage wall and put some tape on the wall at the top of the line where the HID beams fell. I turned the screws enough to move the line up the width of the tape (an inch or so). It took several turns, don't remember exactly how many but it was more than two full turns. Hope that helps!

On earlier dealer visit for oil change I mentioned that headlights seemed to be aimed too low and asked if any adjustment was possible. Was told then that Genesis tech was off but they didn't think adjustment was possible due to auto leveling mechanism. I was asked to reschedule when Genesis Tech would be available. I rescheduled for today.

In meantime I reviewed this forum for the headlight aiming issue and asked if anyone knew if it was even possible. Jonah replied that it was and told how to do it. I copied his reply and, armed with it, returned to have headlight aiming height checked and, if necessary, adjusted. But when I arrived I was told Genesis tech was off but they had asked him about the aiming question and the tech had said that although he didn't think adjustment was possible, he would reshearch it with Hyundai upon return.

I whipped out Jonah's reply, showed it to the head schedule guy, explained that I had found it on a great online forum and said it seemed precisely on point. The schedule guy looked it for a full minute or so and said, "wheel her in, let's take a look." We did, scheduler guy opend the hood and the guy who a week earlier had said he thought the lights could not be adjusted spotted the small holes through the black plastic engine shrouds behind the lights and they began looking for a long screwdriver. Thirty minutes later lights were adjusted.

Thanks to this forum, Jonah and others like him this a great resource for Hyundai and Genesis owners as we all learn more about this sweet new vehicle.
