  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Was driving around today and my Heads Up Display developed a blank circle in the middle... anybody ever see that before?

Is the mirror or screen dirty?

I see artifacts on mine occasionally, on all the makes/models I’ve owned with HUD, Takes some effort but a damp microfiber (not wet just damp) to wipe it down and a dry one to remove the streaks, it’s a pain to reach, bit I clean it every few months.

stupid car wash places will drown the dash in their “armor all” crap and that makes the hud blurry and dust and crap stick to the mirror.

Not particularly so... I'm used to the occasional specks of dust. This was an almost perfect circle. I watched it appear while driving. After a while it began to shrink. Weird.

I got condensation in there once. My HUD was like half gone, as I drove and the interior dried up, the HUD came back.

Think that might have been it... partially. I'm also beginning to believe that my battery is on the way out - Last night I was attempting to adjust the radio volume and instead it was adjusting "navigation" volume. I'll see what it does today.

Was the navigation saying something at the time? On my car, if the nav is speaking, the volume dials adjust the navigation volume.

It shouldn't have been... I didn't have a destination entered. Everything is operating normally now though.

Ghost in the Machine, I guess...

This is actually a glitch with the newest software update that I found in my car too. It happened to me more than 10 times since I upgraded my software. Most of the time, it happens when I get a text message and then my screen gets stuck on the new text message notification and then when I try to lower the volume, it does but for the navigation like yours did. The only way to fix it is to reboot the system. I press the tiny reset button on the radio using my pen and that takes care of the problem. It does not have anything to do with your battery for sure.

If you are still on your stock battery, now is right around the time for them to start failing. My stock battery on my 2015 Ultimate died back in April (right before I traded it in for my G70, unfortunately). I first noticed it was deteriorating because I needed to get closer and closer to my garage for my Homelink button to work.

As for the HUD, during the course of five years, ~120K of ownership of my car, I've seen it go blank maybe 8-10 times. It was most likely to happen during extreme hot days in Texas (sitting outside in 100+ F weather for several hours). It didn't happen every time the temperature climbed that high, just a few- like I said no more than 10 times during the ownership of the car. That could be humidity related now that I think about it.

In any case, each time it happened, it would just start kinda fading out from one direction until it was hidden. It always corrected itself when it cooled off. Note I witnessed the same thing under roughly the same condition in my wife's previous car (a GMC Acadia).

Wasn't even particularly hot outside... for Houston anyway. Of course it well could have been humidity... Mine developed a nearly perfect circle in the center.

A 120k huh? Any other probs besides the odd electrical glitch?

I don't think you need a destination entered, it just had to be saying something at the time. Whether it was reading a text or just saying "curve ahead".

Almost all my minor problems were electrical in nature:
  1. Needed a new head-unit as the head-unit on my car wouldn't pair with BT. I convinced the dealer by pairing my phone with another Genesis on the lot. That was present on delivery, and obviously, taken care of with warranty
  2. Somewhere between 60-70K miles, my traction control light went off. It was some kind of sensor; I forgot which. Was covered by extended warranty.
  3. On relatively rare occasions, having the HUD occasionally dimming to oblivion, as mentioned. Self-correcting, unpredictable, but it did happen more than once.
  4. Having the whole stability/traction control completely freak-out and disable it self when driving in a torrential rainstorm. This too self-corrected, but also happened more than once (< 5 occurrences).
Keep in mind I had a V8 Ultimate package so it had all the bells and whistles along with adaptive suspension.
Overall it was an amazing car that was seriously over-built that I got a lot of joy out of. I had a few other problems related to lowering my car and getting aftermarket wheels (constant alignment issues, on a vehicle that even stock tends to have alignment issues), but that was somewhat self-induced.

I think I may have looked at your car online while shopping. What color was it?

Casablanca White. I traded it in in the Oklahoma City area.

Haven't run into that many issues... @82K w/ V8 Ultimate

- Did just have the HUD do the dimming thing (1st time). Self corrected.
- A/C did quit last year. Fortunately, removing and reseating all HVAC fuses brought it back to life. Tech said that fuses occasionally work themselves loose in these cars...
- Head Unit replaced by previous owner
- Middle vent on driver's side occasionally attempts to BBQ me on startup even when AC is on. Restarting car puts it right.

Mine has done the same 2-3 times, grey circle slowly growing from the middle. Only happened in the summer, seemed to continue to enlarge and wash out the majority of the HUD until I changed directions/angle to the sun (turning it off seemed to help it recover faster, too). My guess is a combination of ambient heat and the sun refracting through the lens at just the right angle, overheating the LCD inside.

Some good pictures of the issue here HUD fogging over?

Exactly what happened to mine... I turned it off. Then later it came back.
