  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday while driving to work, the heads up display began to slowly fade on the right side from top to bottom. Then from bottom to top the display slowly reappeared. Moments later the left side of the display did the same thing. I was not wearing sunglasses, so there was not a polarization issue. On the way home from work, everything worked fine. Anyone else experience this anomaly?

Sounds like a Star Trek episode, with parallel dimensions!

Adjust your tachyon phasing then hit it with a verteron pulse! That'll put the phase inverters back into alignment.

I've seen some weird stuff with the HUD before. It's happened maybe twice since I've had the car. Like yours, it's recovered on its own. Perhaps maybe coincidentally, it's happened on really hot days (above 100).

That being said, the HUD is one of the best reasons to own a car. I read somewhere before about a HUD contributing to distracted driving. I think just the opposite is true: having the speed and vehicle proximity indicators in the HUD is a massive benefit.

I have had mine fog over before causing it to fad out. Simply adjust for AC accordingly and it will clear right up.

A follow-up. The heads-up display has been working correctly the last few days. Not sure what caused the issue. Thanks for all who offered suggestions. Oh, live long and prosper. LOL

This happened today to me on the left top corner.

That's what mine was doing. It started on the right side very slowly, until the entire right side was dark. Then, just as slowing it lit up again, only to do the same thing on the left side. Since then, it's been working fine.

Yea, mine was on the left side. At one point the whole left side was dark. I was thinking that it was a glare but it was still doing in dark areas(long bridges). It happened right in the middle of a 12 hour trip back home. After 30 minutes everything was fine.

Mine's done that a couple of times. I think it's just humidity/condensation, but I've never stopped the car to look at the HUD projector when it happens.

Ditto. That is exactly what mine was and it look just like his picture.

I was driving on mostly highways for about 7 hours yesterday. At one point I noticed that the steering wheel symbol on the HUD for the lane keeping seemed to be getting dim. Over about 2 minutes it slowly faded away until it was gone. After maybe another minute it started to reappear and in a minute was back to full brightness again. It stayed normal through the rest of the trip. I did not test whether the lane keep assist was actually still working or not, I think it probably was.

This is the first time I've seen anything like this and I usually leave this function on. Considering this was only one of the symbols on the HUD it seems to me that it has to be some kind of wonky software (display driver?) problem.

It is fogging over.

I've been experiencing this too and it's been bugging the crap outta me. Since the HUD is one of my favorite features. Seems to do it more on clear sunny days. So to resolve it, you just turn on the defogger?

That was like 3 hours into my trip back to Ohio from Atlanta. I actually managed to get just over 28 mpg on my way back(calculated at the pump not the display). Yea it is a 3.8 RWD and I averaged about 75mph.

Thought I recognized I-75 in your pic. Nice! With AWD not sure I'll get close to that, maybe 25 or so, looking forward to a road trip in the Genesis.

Mine did the same fading act as described by several in this thread. It happened on a bright sunny day and was just over 100 degrees outside.
My AC was set at 72. I dialed it back to 70 and the problem went away in about 30 seconds. I love my HUD:)

I have had a couple of Genesis loaner cars while mine was in the shop and they didn't have the HUD or Auto Hold or the top of the line cruise control and I was lost. Those are must haves now for any future car I purchase.

I've experienced exactly the same issues with my HUD, but it's been several months since this problem last occurred. I noticed that the few times the HUD did "fog up", it was very hot outside and the car had been sitting in the heat for a period of time. I live in Southern California and we're supposed to experience a heat wave this weekend and into the beginning of next week (temperature on Monday is supposed to be 105). I'll pay close attention and see if this issue happens again.
