Heated Seats

I am considering leasing a 4.6 but have only test driven a 3.8 - in Rochester, NY. The seat heaters are a must here. I found very irregular heat over the various seat surfaces. I was in the driver's seat for about 20 minutes. My wife said the same about the passenger front seat. Have others experienced this? Wish the steering wheel was heated as well... Will evaluate the suspension at slow speeds during the next test drive.

I share your need for heated seats and the wish for a heated steering wheel - I can hear the guys in Florida and Texas laughing from here.

I think the heated seats in my Genesis work OK although they seem to take a while to heat up initially and then quickly get so hot that I have to turn them down. On the middle or lowest setting I find the heat even across the seatback and cushion. If you leave it on high, there are definitely hot-spots in the seat cushion (and a slight smell of burning 'rump' steak!! ).

While there definitely is an issue with the ride on some specific surfaces (mostly sharp ridges across the road where both wheels impact at the same time), don't let that prevent you enjoying a GREAT car.

We laugheth not! We NEED those heated seats when it falls below 60.

I've been to Rochester many times with my former car with heated seats, and also found those seats to have "irregular" heat. I.E. various areas of the seat warmer than other areas. Found the same thing when seats were cooled.

Although I have not yet been up to my Penfield "home", the irregular heat does not bother me.

BTW, where did you purchase? Was it at the HUGE dealer?

Interesting to note the even heat distribution depends on the setting. Not the case in other cars I've driven. Not a show stopper either. Just wondered if it was an anomaly that foreshadows other random problems.

I have not purchased yet, only checked it out once. I did go to the HUGE dealer. Amazing how LITTLE the sales person knew about cars! Hyundai is the only brand at that location, yet he didn't know any Genesis specs (even HP) and was not familiar with many of the features/controls/etc. They had seven Genesis on the lot, but had not sold any as of 01/10. They didn't have a single brochure in the dealership and I don't think he was an internet or learn-about-your-product-on-your-own type of guy. My last four cars were 2 BMWs, G35 coupe, and MB CLK320. One of the nice things about the dealerships that I dealt with was that the folks knew there cars pretty well. If Genesis is to sell well, they need to change the sales model a bit.

The suspension issue has had plenty of air time on this forum, but I must admit it has me pretty cautious at this point. I'll ask to keep the car overnight. That works well at the dealerships I mentioned above (and Audi, VW, Cadillac, etc.). Does that work at a Hyundai dealership? I'm hoping for a firm ride, very little sway/roll on curves, and good behavior on poor roads (in Penfield & Victor, we have many of those). The low-speed bounce on poor (and perhaps good???) roads would definitely be a show-stopper for me. Wonder if it could be temperature related at all?

Based on my experience, and the many reviewers that have commented on it, the suspension issues are not temperature related (or not to any noticeable degree). You should be able judge the suspension during a test drive. Driving at cruising speeds on concrete road surface (as opposed to smooth asphalt) will give you a good idea of the "bounce".

I don't know whether you can take the car overnight. I made it clear to my salesman that I was not going purchase any car with more than 25 miles on it when I bought mine, and most dealers don't have a lot of Genesis cars.
