  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello from Maryland

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'm in Pasadena, MD. How about you? I just picked up my G70 this past weekend.

Yes sir, Catonsville. Bought my 2020 G80 a couple weekends ago.

Also, we have this Maryland-specific subforum:

@brianong18 congrats! What color and trim? I’m in silver spring

@DrKK didn’t want to wait for the new 2021?

No. The price was right. My Camry needed four new tires, the rotors were replaced by the dealer and were STILL messed up, and I cared so little for the Toyota that the interior was trashed and I didn't even mind. I even started smoking cigars in it. Plus, knowing the 2021 would be all-new on the G80 at least, I thought maybe the dealer would be motivated to clear out 2020 stock.

Just for completeness, while at the dealer, drove the G70. Said: "Why would anyone buy this instead of a top of the line Sonata? This actually is less nice than a top of the line Sonata Limited which is way less expensive??".

Then I drove the G80. Now we were talking. :)

And now I'm on this forum three times a day. lol.

Actually got the car from Rockville so not too far from you. I got Casablanca white with light interior. I hate the summer heat so I went super light. It's pretty much a base one. I guess technically an Advanced?

Cause the top of the line Sonata is only a 1.6 turbo. Lol.

Hold up, you’re saying the Sonata is nicer than the G70? No way lol, it doesn’t even compare.

Nice! I tried to get mine at Rockville but I wanted my exact trim and color and they couldn’t get it for me. I ended up finding it at Bowie. But i still get my service done at Rockville cause it’s way closer.

When I was texting the sales person at Rockville he said there was a Mallorca blue G70 with the elite and prestige package that was within 150 mi that they could get. I really wanted that one but it wasn't available anymore when I went to the dealer. Ended up with a good deal on mine though. They also gave me a lot more than I expected on my trade in.

I knew this would be a controversial opinion that would mark me as an idiot to most of you. Fair enough. Opinions vary. :)

My relationship with cars and their design is much less intense and personal than most people.

I think being realistic, once you totally remove the "prestige" difference (which is significant and I know a serious factor for 95% of the people reading this) between the cars, I think one can find the top-of-the-line Sonata Limited (of course, not the regular Sonata trims, I mean the top trim with all the stuff) offers at least comparable comforts and features to a base G70, with of course a smaller engine, which I don't care about, at a considerably lower price. On a car-per-dollar (emphasis on "per dollar") basis, I think the top of the line Sonata makes more sense than a G70 for someone for whom the "prestige" factor and power-of-engine is moot. There's even a few things in the Sonata Limited fully loaded version that I don't have even in the G80, such as a heads-up display, auto-park, etc.

Anyway. Just an (admittedly unusual) opinion.

Different strokes for different folks. No problem with that. But I was looking at the Sonata Limited prices just now and my G70 was only around $3k more than the Sonata. The bigger engine, awd and Brembos were big selling points for me. Don't care too much about the tech. My base car has more than enough tech for me.

I also tried going to a bunch of dealers and tried getting them to get the one i wanted from another dealer, but that never really worked out. Either the other dealer didn’t wanna do the trade, or they somehow didn’t have the car anymore all of a sudden. That’s when i started going to each dealer individually and Bowie told me they were getting the one I wanted in about a month right off the truck so I waited a few weeks.

That’s fair enough. The looks and the power matter to me more so the Sonata would never do it for me. I also haven’t seen the new Sonata up close in person so I can’t say much about the interior.

Although I agree with you that the sonata is very nice, I highly disagree with this. If anyone on here cared about prestige, we would have bought an audi, bmw, MB. We bought Genesis precisely because we can see past bs prestige.

My wife bought one at the same time I bought the G80. I'll take pictures. I used to own a Sonata Limited myself, let's see, back around 2009-2015 or so. At the time, that car was OK. Since that time though, the car has *SIGNIFICANTLY* upped its game. The 2020 Sonata Limited with all the trimmings is extremely, extremely nice, and has an impressive suite of features.

Sonata is a FWD transverse engine family sedan with no sporting pretensions whatsoever, whereas the G70 has a longitudinal mounted engine with near 50:50 weight distribution and RWD... This is a huge difference that most people overlook, and I can understand why some people would get more drawn to the fancy tech in the latest hyundais, but in the driving experience the G70 is several leagues higher. Even compared to the G80 it's better (speaking as an ex 2015 genesis owner).

@DrKK - Fixed it for you. "Prestige" is not appropriate here as other members have commented on.

Also to many of us, "...all the stuff" is everything the Sonata is lacking... which is why we drive G70s.
