Well my 2012 i have only had 1 issue, BRAKE Module failure that was fix under warranty. That is it. I now have 148k miles on it. Got it with 36k or so miles. BEST car I ever bought. I would do it again and get Rspec 2013-2014 seriously. Why not?
Mine was CPO and the previous owner took care of it. Had all service records and I have a NICE extended warranty. No issues too much since I try to fix minor things myself.
GDI does produce that SOOT when you get it on it but who cares. I see other cars like Beemers or Mercs do the same.
As far as the 8 speed tranny, the only thing I experience sometimes is when I want to pass someone, it seems to have to build up momentum every now and again. I get about 31.9 - 33 mpg on regular gas (with or without ethanol). Car is fine.
