In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hello NEWBIE! Please give me your opinion

I love the cashmere colored leather seats. I have sold both my Jeeps this week so I am ready to finally get a Genesis.

I just cannot decide at all between the two contenders as both are very close in price.

Contender A: http://www.marionford.com/Used-2011-Hyundai-Genesis-46-Marion-IL/vd/28092954 This Genesis is closer to me only 1.5-2 hours away. It has cooling seats, the upgrade 17 speaker sound system, the HID headlights, parking sensor, ALL fitting floor/trunk mats, and all the things that a Technology Package has. However it has close to 70,000 miles.

Contender B: http://www.toyotaofmerrillville.com/auto/used-2010-hyundai-genesis-46-serving_merrillville-46410-in/3225254/ This Genesis is farther away, close to 3.5-4 hours from me. It does not have cooling seats, the upgraded sound system or headlights, parking sensors, NO floor/trunk mats or anything the Technology Package has. However, it does not even have 40,000 miles yet!

What is your guys opinion? I'm a sucker for options but I also know as a college student, I need to make a smart decision. AND YES I AM BUYING THIS WITH MY OWN MONEY!! Lol no help from mommy and daddy.

Not sure how they are different mate? From both sets of pictures, both contenders appear to be Tech!
Please note the DIS/wheel in both cars, also zoom in on the bumper to verify both cars actually have the parking sensors, which means you have got every toy possible on option B :)

We try very hard not to give advice on this site, but hypothetically speaking, if it was me I would make that extra 2 hours drive and get B, because to me 30k miles difference is far more important than the one year between both models, as both years are virtually identical in every respect (color/mileage none withstanding).

BTW I would try to knock down another $900 to make $17k even, that way you have a bit of change left over for gas and the 'rigid collar' upgrade (which comes highly recommended if you are into spirited driving ;))

Good luck, I am pretty sure you are just going to love whichever one you end up with.

Just found out that the 2010 with 39,xxx is going to auction in a week or so because the dealer has not been able to sell it.

How should I use that in making an offer? I assume that means the dealer would love to be able to sell it for something to me rather than nothing

Again hypothetically speaking ;), I would have the finance ready to go (ie money in the bank/loan pre approved ) call them or send an email with the 1?k offer stating that you have a check ready to go and ask in what form they will accept the payment in?

I would also take a good mechanic with me to check the car over, drive the car, try every button, option and check every light before I come anywhere near any paper work!

Also depending in which state you are in / the car is sold you may have 3-5 days grace period to change your mind on any contract that you may sign, so technically you MAY be able to return the car to the dealer if you think there is something is wrong, I would ask the question of what type of warranty / return policy grace period, just before you sign anything and handover the check.

But that is just my two cents, others may have better ideas...

I have my cash/check ready. No financing even needed. I'm not real good friends with any mechanics or know of any car buddies that would make the trip with me.

Having Cash/check ready is good news and you should be good to go on that front.

Now for finding a mechanic, one way you can address this issue is to reach out to couple and local small auto mechanics where the vehicle is located and see if they are willing meet you and check the car for a modest fee.

The important thing is you find someone that is impartial and good enough to highlight any major issues (undocumented accident, leaks, unusual sounds etc) to potentially save you some trouble down the line.

I have done a quick google map search around that particular dealer (B), hopefully will help get you started;

The dealer will not budge at all on the price of $17900 on the 2010 Genesis.... Geesh

Well, now it depends how badly you want it? :D

Although based on kbb and auto trader they did seem to price the vehicle as premium and not the Tech package (with 2k off already)...

http://www.autotrader.com/research/pricing/car-value.xhtml?zip=46410&model=17797&mileage=30130&action=BUY&year=2010&trim=263655%7C263655&make=20#edit-options-top

I would suggest asking them how many owners the car had?

Also it might be useful to go to your local Hyundai dealer and give them the VIN number and see if you they can look up the service history, that way you can find out if it has been taken care off?

Also be aware that as second owner+, the factory warranty is reduced to 5 years/60k miles from the purchase date of the original owner, so it might be worth enquiring about extended platinum HMA warranty from the dealer at the same time.

I am not trying to scare you or put you off, but rather just mention a word of caution for you to consider the extended warranty since you mentioned you do not know any good mechanics , The tech on this car is expensive to repair, for example the stereo head unit is more than $3k to replace, the 4.6 engine is more than $8k to replace and the list goes on...

Again, good luck.. ;).

The car is priced for a great deal, I am fully aware the I am already getting great value for the price. I know that it has is a one owner car. But Hyundai dealers can do that? Look up VIN's on other cars?

I knew about the warranty expiring thing. This dealer says since it is a newer car with lower miles, the included a 12 month, 12,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. I have been told extended warranties are not worth it.

Here is what the dealer just emailed me:

"Vehicle $17,300.00 This is our "we will take a small loss" price.
Tax 7.25% $1,254.25
DOC fee $150.00
Licensing fee $216.00

OTD $18,920.25

For the vehicle and miles, you can't beat this. "

I am going to jump on this offer

Got him down to $17250. And he will put a full tank of premium gas in it and will let me take it to an independent mechanic.

I get it next Friday!! I AM SO PUMPED UP!!!!

Indeed, Hyundai dealers can look up service history that was preformed by any other Hyundai dealer. If you plan to service your car at that dealer, you could mention that you plan to do so at theier dealership and if you can find a good service manager/dealer, in general they will try to make you happy, so that they can gain your business.

$17250 you say? I think that is one hell of deal! Well done for doing all your homework and keep us posted with updates.

As some would say on this site: "Pictures please, or it did not happen!" .. :D

that's not a bad deal considering I got my 2010 4.6 tech with 73K miles in January for $14000 plus tax and fees somewhere around $15700 out the door. and your car has 35k less miles

If you don't pay cash and go though a credit union you can usually get a extended warrant 100K miles at $1100.00. I checked into this before I leased. But now I lease with a potential purchase, at a price of 58% of list. With it being a purchase from Hyundai its classified as a used vehicle buy. Which if the miles are say 40K I get an additional 40k+100K= 140K warranty

John.

I would like a longer warranty but I get a 12 month/12000 miles bumper to bumper from them and an extended warranty just does not seem like it is worth it from everything I had read. And the Genesis is a reliable car. Plus I do not want to finance at all.
