In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Help! 2015 Genesis rear door won’t open.

the only way the door won't open is if the latch is frozen. the power lock regulator can malfunction, but any dealer or locksmith can slim jim the door and release the latch.

so the question is, is it the latch that has malfunctioned? or is the door stuck due to the weather stripping. I have already had this happen on my 2018 going a month or so without opening the rear doors in the summer heat and then try to open them and they are stuck from the weather stripping getting soft and sticking to the frame.

the solution was getting into the back seat and while my wife was pulling on the door handle from the outside and then using my shoulder and body weight to slam into the door and give it a hefty push, it took 3 times slamming my weight into the door to release it.

I have the same problem on my wife's Camry in the summer and had it on my Lexus as well, these cars are so well sealed that the door stripping and the frame stripping are so tight that the heat causes them to soften and adhere to the metal they are sealed against.

I'd be willing to bet yours has the same issue.

I have the same problem on my 2015. The driver's side rear door is unlocked and worked (opened from the outside) in the morning, but wouldn't open from the outside or inside in the evening.
If the problem is not the weather stripping, does releasing the latch fix the problem? Or does something still need to be repaired to prevent the problem from reoccurring?

What do you mean by “releasing the latch”. That is what the door pulls do.

are you asking about “slim jamming” to release the latch? If that works then you have an issue with the mechanism and it will need to be replaced.

No need to be snippy, rude or intimate that I am ignorant. I am fully aware of what the door pulls do on an automobile. Of course I was referring to utilizing a locksmith to attempt to "open" the door via a "slim-jim".

wasn’t being that way, sorry if it came off like that, I wasn’t understanding what you where asking.

Was there an answer for this? My drivers side rear door is doing the exact same thing. I can hear the lock click when I hit the button, but something must not be engaging. Worked in the morning, randomly stopped in the afternoon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it has to do with friction with the seal at the top of the door. Push up and down on the window button until the glass moves...then spray some silicone up inside the gasket. See if that makes any difference.

By Chance did you ever figure this out?

I am having the same issue with my 2016. I will pull the trim and the panel to take a look.
maybe silicone spray lube on the moving parts will help.

I have a MasterTech full warranty, but the service writer still must follow procedures to collect from MasterTech.

I think the technician found and repaired the problem. I did I did not see the procedure, even though the dealership has service bay monitors in the waiting room. They also changed my ABS fuse, to accommodate the last recall. They did not present me with a bill, but the drivers door lock motor works very well, better than ever before. No part was replaced. I perceived that the service organization was competent, the shop was clean and well organized. If the problem reoccurs, I will bring it back to them.

My 2016 Genesis recently developed this same problem with the rear driver side door. The door worked one minute, then it didn't. Now it won't open from the inside or the outside. I've come across a lot of posts that mention this same problem that aren't just confined to the Genesis. Apparently, Hyundai has issued an extended warranty to cover door latch problem in the 2016 Elantra and 2016-2017 Tuscon.

There are many potential reasons why the Genesis wasn't included, but one main reason is likely that they haven't had enough complaints yet. I just submitted a complaint and now I'm trying to find a corporate number I can call. It seems like this extended warranty should include the Genesis as well.

(second to last post here shows the extended warranty letter from Hyundai)

I sincerely hope you find someone to talk to, as I have the same issue. Please let us know if you get anywhere or find someone useful to talk to.

You mentioned that you “submitted a complaint”. Was this in writing or some type of online form? I could do the same thing to maybe get some attention brought to the issue.

I called Hyundai's consumer services number to register a formal complaint citing my door problem and the extended warranty issued for Elantra and Tuscon models. I strongly suggest that anyone who has the same issue does the same thing. The more people that call in the better the chances of the warranty being extended for the Genesis.

EDIT: I also submitted a complaint through a webform but I can't seem to find how I got there anymore.

I just called the customer support center in Arizona about my door lock. My unlock problem is the left front, not the left rear. When it unlocks, the solenoid emits a loud buzz, but does unlock. If it does not unlock, the interior handle is very stiff, requiring more force to open the latch handle than usual. The customer service representative was cordial. She advised me that a warranty representative will contact me next week.

The person I spoke to over the phone was very nice as well but didn't mention anything about anyone calling me back. If you do end up getting a callback and are willing to share I'd be interested to know what they tell you.

Christmas and CoViD could be delaying their response. They have not yet called me back.
