  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Am replacing my alternator been fighting the lower bolt all night. Any tips or tricks on how to get the lower bolt lined up? TIA

I would suggest that you insert the upper bolt first, but not tight so that the alternator itself have some movement and then attempt to install the lower bolt.

Sometimes a part will shift a bit if you tighten one bolt before installing the other bolts which messes with the part alignment to the holes. Installing the bolts in a loose fashion allows you to move the part a bit to align the other bolts holes.

My Indie mechanic said it helped a lot to loosen the sway bar link for access when they replaced it on my 2015 5.0. Not sure if a 1st Gen has the same arrangement though.

OK. I assume that the owner is trying to reinstall the lower bolt and is having a hard time aligning the alternator mounting holes.

You're probably right... And the sway bar link thing is prob not going to help unless a lift is being used. And he would get better help if this post was in the 1st gen forum.

Got it aligned at 3 in morning Sunday after 5 hours of struggling with. Serpentine belt broke that day due to the front under cover not properly being secured changed that out no problem. New problem now though my temp gauge stopped working heater was blowing cold air forever but after a drive into town and back it finally kicked on and started blowing hot air temp gauge still not working any insights on what could possibly be wrong now? Could it have to do with the car being in limp mode maybe?
