  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow Genesis owners,
Two week ago I finally pulled the trigger on a beautiful white 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate after looking at them for the past year. So far it's the been the best decision I could've made despite a couple hiccups! The first hiccup was partially my fault because I really wanted Android Auto and I didn't realize until a few days ago (thanks to this forum) that the 9" screen in the Ultimate can't get it but the others can... oh well. The second minor hiccup is that the drivers side headlight is out (hi and lo beam). I didn't think to much of it at first because I figured it was just a bulb that went bad. However, now that I've replaced the bulb and checked the fuses, I still have no light. Since I haven't had the car very long I'm not well versed in where everything is and how it all works, but has anybody else had this happen or know of what I can check to try and get this issue fixed?

I searched all over the forum and the only other headlight issues I saw were where both headlights go out or the low beam would go out but the high beam would still work. I really appreciate everybody that comments on this forum! I've learned so much about the car just going through a lot of the posts from other people.

Thanks!

Hopefully this helps somebody else down the road, but I took my car in to get the headlight fixed and the issue was the HID headlight ballast went bad. $700 later... I have 2 working headlights.

Could be the ballast. I would check ebay for a replacement. You can usually find the ballast or even an entire headlamp assemble for less than the ballast costs from the dealer.

Sounds about right. I think mine (driver's side too) is going too. My headlight will randomly go out and turning them on/off will kick it back on. So it's likely the ballast going bad:(

I wish I would've known it was the ballast sooner because it would've given me more time to source the part myself before I took it to the shop. Once the mechanic told me what part it was I called a couple places online that had the part for less than what they were quoting but both places said the part was back ordered. I already got pulled over for the headlight being out once (what cop pulls somebody over for a headlight out?!) so I wanted to get it fixed sooner than later.

Snork, at least you can get it to work so you can buy yourself some time to find a better deal on the part. I paid $500 for just the ballast.... Not sure if this helps, but the part number for the ballast they installed is 92190B1110 and the best price I found was at this website:
Hyundai Genesis G90 Actuator motor. Ballast. Control module. High intensity discharge lighting - 92190B1110 | Wholesale Hyundai Parts, Lakeland FL

They were backordered for a couple weeks when I called Friday which is why I went with the one the mechanic provided. It says it's for a 2017 G90, but it fit my 2015 3.8 Ultimate. Also, not sure if they are specific to driver side vs passenger side or universal.

Hope this helps!

A smart cop would stop you. Watch a couple of episodes of Live PD on A & E network. Every week you will see cars pulled over for a light out, even a license plate light. Many of the best drug busts come from stopping cars with a light out.

Lol valid point and I love Live PD, but I can't say that I've seen a single 2015 Genesis with a headlight out on there get pulled over with drugs in it. It's usually a 2001 Toyota Carolla with 1 headlight out, a trash bag duct taped over a busted out window, half rusted exterior, and no break lights that gets pulled over with a pound of weed in it.

Thanks. I found the part # and did an ebay search. There's at least 2 top rated sellers that sell used OEM HID parts (ballasts, bulbs and wiring harnesses). They're used and likely pulled from accident vehicles, but can get a pair of ballasts for $40-50 shipped or singles for $20-25. For that price I may just roll the dice on a pair of them. Here's one such listing: 2x OEM Hyundai Elantra Sport Genesis Sonata Xenon Ballast Control Unit Computer | eBay

Spending the money for a pound of Chronic doesn't leave much left over for car repair....
