  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to identify what I'd assume is a damaged underbody panel on my 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan (not Coupe). I’ve attached a photo below — it’s a piece hanging down near the front passenger-side wheel area. It doesn’t look like the main engine splash shield; more like a smaller deflector or side panel. It is on both sides but the passenger side hangs down substantially more.

I’m not sure if it’s part of the fender liner, an air deflector, or something else. Does anyone know what this panel is called and the part number? Also, any idea how critical it is to replace or if it can be zip-tied for now? This happened just last night when I let an idiot friend of mine borrow the car and she apparently decided it would be a great idea to take it on poorly maintained unpaved roads. I very recently acquired this beauty and its safe to say that will be the last time I let someone else borrow it. I'm not sure if its worth noting, but I also recently had it serviced about 9 days ago but nothing turned up on the inspection.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like it might be a section that’s broken away from the larger splash guard or “tray”, upon closer inspection of the right side of the hanging piece. Loose fibers, cracks, etc in that spot. It PROBABLY wouldn’t hurt to try zip tying it back in place (just my uneducated opinion, for what it’s worth), from what I can see.

Tap it with a screwdriver, if it is metallic sounding, that might be an issue. If it is plastic, try to secure as mentioned.
