If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was a proud owner of a 2009 Hyundai 4.6 back in the day. I put a little over 100K on it and traded it in to get the wife a new 2016 Kia Sorento SX.

Fast forward to now.... I'm driving her old 2006 Kia Sportage with 170K on it and its time for a new Genny.

I'm having a hard time determining from online photos (cars.com, autotrader.com, etc) what has the ultimate package and what doesn't.

From what I understand there is a premium, tech and ultimate package? I'm looking to purchase the ultimate package 05 but most ads online don't state whether it has it or not. Hence why I'm trying to figure it out by looking at the pictures.

Do I look for the DIS knob? Chrome accents somewhere? Larger tires?

I know the Ultimate package has a larger screen but its hard determining that based on photos....

Can anyone point me to a feature that says, "Ultimate Package"?

Also for clarification, can you get the DIS knob without the ultimate package?

Thanks,

Hi Ashdump - Well, one easy way to tell it's an Ultimate is the real wood accents on the dash. The lower trim models have the shiny "faux wood", but I still love mine. :-)

Ultimate package will have heads up display, 17 Speaker Lexicon, and powered trunk

Look on the sticker?

Also, it has the extra set of controls on the console (with the big center knob)

Maybe I wasn't clear in my post.... I'm searching online and most, if not all, ever mention if the car has the ultimate package. The listings online (depending on dealer) don't have a lot of good information. So I was looking for the smoking gun for what car has the ultimate package.

Apparently there is no exterior feature you notice nor is there something different about the inside that (visually) separates the Ultimate package from the others...

OR, is the DIS knob the smoking gun? or is there another level of package that also has this DIS knob?

I suppose the natural wood has a duller look to the shiny fake wood? That might help me out.

I'm pretty sure the DIS knob is unique to the Ultimate. Good luck in your shopping. :)

"faux wood" is a compliment - it looks like what it is - cheap plastic.

That and the A/V "warning" are the only two things I really don't like about the car, so I guess I'll keep it.

To my understanding is just glossy wood? Where does it says is fake or plastic ? Matte finish just looks real

Good idea - follow the money trail.
Also, go to Hyundai web site and "Build Your Own" to see what all the option packages consist of.

If your trim looks like wood, but is not Ultimate Package, it is "wood-grain" trim, which is a plastic laminate that has a photo of wood imprinted on the laminate surface.

The DIS knob is only on the Ultimate (V6 and V8).
The real wood with matte finish is standard on V8 but only on the Ultimate package in the V6.

Apparently, you're right - my "non-ultimate" V8 says right on the sticker "Genuine Matte Finish Wood Trim". And, the factory web site doesn't show that item as part of the Ultimate package.

I've had the car 4 months and it still doesn't look like real wood to me. But then, I didn't buy the car for that.

Go figure

Thanks for all the responses....

Here is an example:

Is this a regular Genesis or an Ultimate. It says it has 7 speakers!!!!

That's an Ultimate and they just left the "1" off the "7". As the poster above said, "Matte" wood dash and control knob on console are giveaways.

Here's how you can tell with the V6's:

Premium: No pano sunroof
Signature: Pano sunroof but grill lacks glossy black square
Tech: Glossy black square on grill but no control knob inside and no matte wood
Ultimate: Matte wood and center control knob.
