  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got a new engine installed and really would like to keep this vehicle.. It drives very good but I have leaned on the HPP warranty a good bit since I bought it with 28K miles...thank goodness I had it. But I will not keep the vehicle if I cannot purchase an extended warranty.

Any good aftermarket extended warranties I should try? Can I extend the HPP warranty with the dealer that has been servicing/repairing my vehicle? This would be the same dealer I bought the HPP from too. Do you think it hurts or helps I have a new engine?

I got two quotes to extend the HPP past 100K mi

1. $4,600 for 36K mi
2. $5,800 for 46K mi

I average about 22K a year. Eh, thinking about just rolling the dice for another year. Those are some big numbers to justify. Since I recently got a new engine, I will see if they would come off the price some. But it may not be negoitiable

OMG
that is a rip...
you have to find an alternative.

I am signing up for Route 66 extended warranty tomorrow, just as my 5-year bumper to bumper expires on the 2012 Equus. Car has 37000 miles on it right now. Cost for 8 years from tomorrow or 120,000 on odometer is $1,715 including coverage for hi tech electronics. The BMW forums have a lot of positive feedback on this company, but comments vary with all these aftermarket warranty companies. I plan to keep the car at least another six years, and figure upon selling it, the next buyer may appreciate purchasing a car with some warranty coverage as opposed to nothing.

America's First Credit Union offers it to their members, and it is sold via credit unions only, I'm told.

I've found a few alternatives to HPP. If you're with GEICO, they have an awesome insurance plan that is usually $100 or less a month. If you're with USAA, they have an Assurant Plan that my local dealer says pays out well. If you look online, lots have said Endurance is a good provider.

Things to be careful of:
1. Are they 24 hour assistance or just business hours?
2. Do they include towing for any reason, or is it only reimbursed for authorized repairs?
3. Where is their HQ? I've seen some that are off-shore.
4. Online ratings?
5. What items are covered? HPP doesn't cover the Automatic Climate Control (ACC) module. The steering module isn't covered either (best to file an automobile insurance claim).
6. Deductible?
7. When does the coverage start? Some are back-dated to when the car was brought into service, while others start on the date of purchase. (Some companies won't cover you for 3 months)
8. How much mileage coverage? Total miles or mileage from the date of purchase?
