  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all!

I recently purchased a Genesis G90 2018 model. I love it so much but just realized that I do not have Apple CarPlay in my vehicle. I would greatly appreciate some guidance from the community if there is any third-party way to install it in my car. I was trying to browse through the forums but did not find useful information. Maybe I miss it, please let me know if you have any suggestions. I am desperate to know if there is any solution....

Thanks,
Geoff

At this time I have seen one company called Nav Tool that says they can do it. It appears to be more of a mirroring option. Otherwise, I don't know of anything. How many days did you go before realizing you didn't have it?

Hi RonL, Thanks you very much for the feedback. I have contacted several third-party companies. They told me that they have contacted all the suppliers, but unfortunately, they don't have carplay part for my model.

I also found this NavTool: GENESIS G90 2017 2018 NAVIGATION VIDEO INTERFACE with BUILT-IN HD SMARTPHONE MIRRORING via HDMI and https://www.navtool.com/genesis-g90-2017-2018-apple-carplay.aspx, but the company that I contacted, told me that they have tried several times in the past with this product, but never work out. So They don't recommend it...

It seems to me that this is a dead end, I really don't know what's the possible next step. Also, I just feel that this is just a screen, why cannot we just project something on it... Maybe I am wrong.

I think the biggest issue and why carplay is not available for our g90s is that the screen is not full touch screen. Car play only mirrors your phone and all you controls are on the screen not the phone, so not having touch screen would make carplay useless since you wont be able to click anything. We have the touchscreen option in our navigation but its just a small portion of the screen. The whole screen would need to be touch screen that's why carplay is only available with the newer 2021 g90s since they have a full touch screen.

Hi wojas322,

Thank you so much! I think that you are right and it sounds like a very possible reason. In such case, is it possible that we can just replace the entire screen with a new touch screen? I will do more research on this problem, but if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Geoff

Replacing the screen with a touchscreen may be possible, but that's just the screen. The whole audio unit wont be able to work with the new screen, both are linked together. I personally don't think its worth a hassle and the money to get carplay working. I know its a very good thing to have but unfortunately our cars don't come equipped with that and would require a lot of modifications.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Thank you very much for the feedback. I think that I agree with you that it may work if I keep pushing it but that is too much work.

I really appreciate your input!

Cheers,
Geoff

Was available in 2020 not 2021 models.

I don't think that is the reason.
My daughter has a 2022* Mazda CX-30. The screen on it is completely non-touch, but it supports CarPlay very well. On-screen selections are all made using the scroll knob on the console.
*: Might be 2023, not sure. She purchased it new in late 2022.

I have a full touch screen on my G80, but I am also able to use CarPlay with just the scroll knob if I feel like it.

I am totally confused now... :( I just want to know the exact answers to this question.
Why are you confused? You already got the answer. Your model does not support it. It has nothing to do with the screen. The head unit hardware doesn’t have what it needs.

I think I’ve found a new solution. Naviks…reasonably priced too:

Did you install NAVIKS Apple CarPlay upgrade to your G90?
If so would you describe the install process? Are you‘totally amped’ with the results? This looks like an amazing solution I’ve been searching for.

I have had the delamination common issue and they’re (dealer) replacing my screen in a couple weeks. I wanted to wait until after they finish the warranty work. hopefully by end of month I’ll have it installed and will report!

I took the leap and bought the Navik kit. Installed in about an hour today. Not too bad of an install. Really like the functionality of the kit. Screen is touch screen now which is a big plus as well. Would highly recommend.

Could you provide some more detail on what was involved in the install? I am very interest and I currently own a 2017 G90 Ultimate and might be buying a 2019 G90 Ultimate later this week.

You will need to remove the 2 trim panels above the radio. One is leather the other the wood one. Both use small cips and a few screws to remove. You will then need to remove the radio and it is a little more complicated. I placed all of the units above the dash compartment. The adapter for the back of the radio is the hardest part. You unplug the factory harness and use the adapter. There is very little room there so getting it routed is the hardest part. Assmebly is the reverse. Took me about an hour to do the install only because I knew how the panels came offf as I recently replaced my nav screen.
