  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone else experience this: When I start my car (with AV off and a USB stick plugged in), the AV system starts by itself and begins to play from the USB stick. I find this annoying and sometimes a semi-dangerous jolt to my nerves (when I left it at a loud volume on shut-off).

I have two older sticks (smaller than 1 gig) that do not "auto-start" the AV system when left plugged in. Also a Patriot 8 gig.

I've done several tests and first thought it was FAT vs FAT32 formatting on the stick. But the Patriot is FAT32 - and it does not "auto-start."

So I experimented re-formatting one of the FAT sticks to HTFS, then exFAT and the Genesis won't recognize either formats. SO I put the stick back to FAT . . and now it also auto-starts the AV system (the same stick that didn't do it before!).

I have this AV autostart issue when I start the car, and I have USB flash drive plugged in all the time, but my system starts playing FM radio. I don't think this relates to the format of the USB flash drive.
And what is interesting that speaker icon on display has X over it which means AV system is off.

Could be an issue beyond the USB stick.

I , too, have the AV system autostart sometimes even when no USB stick is in.

When that happens (without USB in place), the AV system has to be turned on, then off - ie, it is actually on but the system doesn't know it. But when it autostarts with the USB, the system can be turned off with a single bump of the knob on the head unit - not twice (on, then off) like the former example.

Plus, it ALWAYS autostarts when certain USB sticks are in place. And only SOMETIMES with other USB sticks or none at all.

Yes, this exactly my issue, but I always have USB stick in place.
And my amp was replaced in December or November under warranty when I complained about this to the dealer. I guess this is the issue with the head unit. I will complain about this at the next oil change.

Also, sometimes my AV system complains that there is no USB stick in, even it is in place, so I pull it out and insert it back.

I find that when I use a USB 2.0 stick I don't have problems, but I do when I use a USB 3.0 stick. Maybe this will help.

My USB stick is always in place. When I start, the system will play either the FM radio or the stick, whichever was being used when I shut the car off. This is with a 2013 Premium.

My desktop computer has USB2 ports so I assume the stick is USB2.

Unfortunately, that's not the case here. It's the USB stick itself, and how it is specified on its packaging, whether its the stick itself or the container it came in.

USB 3.0 vs USB 2.0 is a change to the hardware/firmware of USB itself.

Simply, a USB 2.0 stick is just that. Plugging a USB 3.0 stick into a computer's USB 2.0 port and working with it, including formatting, still leaves you with a USB 3.0 stick; it makes no difference to the internal hardware/firmware of the stick.

Hope this helps.
