  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a new 2011 Genesis with the Driver Information System. In the map menu section under system information, I can find my ALTITUDE. Is there any way to get this to show on my map display?

1. NO.

2. The altitude display is worthless in this car, (at least in my 2009) as it does not give the actual altitude, but the closest altitude every 200 feet.
This is worthless to me. I have the latest map update, and it still goes up (or down) by 200 or 100 feet. Not actual altitude.

Not sure why anyone needs to know their altitude while driving their Genny, but if you absolutely have to know, just go to Amazon and check out the "Ambient Weather WS-108 Digital Altimeter, Barometer, Thermometer, Clock & Compass". $19.99 plus shipping. Not only do you get your altitude, accurate to 3' once calibrated, but you get barometric pressure, temperature, time, and a compass.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
You drive thru the mountains, you may want to know how high you are.
As mentioned, not at all accurate-off at times by 250 feet.

If you are a licensed pilot and can give Hyundai your certificate number they will allow a programed update to your GPS which will give you altitude and all instrument approaches in your area--

I dunno about that, but I do know it's about 4 feet from my drivers side windowsill to the ground. If I drop something from the window I know it will fall about 4 feet. The vertical distance between sea level and my tires isn't something I've thought much about. .

Are you telling me you don't take into account the differences in air resistance due to variations in altitude while driving? GET OFF THE ROAD!!

Another oddity (at least IMO) about my Genesis' altimeter is that it does not display negative integers. In other words, it's useless if you go below sea level.

I was slightly annoyed by this when short-cutting thru Death Valley on the way home from my latest road trip east.

Since I don't travel anywhere near Death Valley I think a negative altitude reading would signal a bad outcome. Fortunately, I hardly ever use the nav so I am not distracted by such events. I do travel through underwater tunnels from time to time, but when that happens the satellite doesn't know where I am.

I just returned from a trip out to NM, AZ and CA but not with the Genesis. Took my wifes FWD Continental. (better in snow than the Genesis). I used a Garmin Nuvi 1370 on the dash. Told me the altitude and even when the road looked level, it shows me that I'm going up or down. There were places in California when it shows negative numbers. (a couple spots on I-8), but I don't always believe the low altitudes because when I was parked at a small park, next to the ocean, at Imperial Beach (just south of San Diego), It showed that I was -16 feet, and I know I was not underwater <grin>. It was spot on though when I was in downtown Roswell NM, which is 3570 ft above sea level and also spot on in Ruidoso NM at 6900 above.

BTW, I got the Nuvi 1370 for two reasons. First was just for this trip with the Continental and second, the Nuvi 1370 has the European maps already in there, and we hope to go to France this summer (if we can afford the low dollar - high Euro). It is cheaper for me to bring my own unit, than the additional cost ($500) of leasing a car with the GPS built in to the dash. (I always lease [lease not rent] a Renault at www.renaultusa.com with never a problem the six times I've used their service since 1989.

I only worry about how high I am when I'm driving in the mountains of California...on my way to/from the "medical marijuana" store...and then I'm usually so high I couldn't care if I was off by 2.5 or 250 feet. ;)

I have a small GPS that displays altitule. Neat to have driving in the mountains. Was hoping that my Genesis would not need a 79.99 backup
