If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, thanks for great reviews on great car!! I live in Canada, plan to buy one soon, although hesitate a little cause of volume of Genies that are sold here. Not that many.... and have heard some bad stories about dealers service, basically a lot of them don't know how to handle Genesis sedan....
Is there some canadian bought and serviced Genie with some storries to tell?
Cheers!

I have never purchased a car on the basis of whether or not I'll receive good service or not. If I liked the car and additionally it received good reviews, than I buy it. Admittedly, I've only driven Lexus & MB in the last 25 years and had the best service. But I am totally in love with my Genesis 3.8/Tech pkg, and if and when I need service I'll face that hopefully without any struggle. I cannot imagine that Hyundai would be reluctant to solve any problem, especially in their launching this new product. I'm sure they have big plans for the Genesis nameplate. Sooooo, get out there and get yourself one of the finest cars on the road. I feel like I'm driving the peerage the likes of BMW 7, MB S, and Lexus LS, AT HALF THE PRICE!!!!

Bought my Genesis last summer here in the Lower Mainland.

So far my dealer experience has been top notch!

They even seem to prioritize me over other (Non Genesis) owners when it comes to servicing.

The Genesis has been the best new car I have ever purchased. I highly recommend buying one.

Yeah, i just hope that my local dealer actually serviced one.....and I'm refering to some quite serious problems that have been posted here, not regular scheduled maintenance or oil change (could that be a problem too??!!)
I guess I will find out soon....

I bought a Genesis sedan last fall here in Ottawa. My experience with the dealer service is mixed but not bad. The steering wheel stays in its preset position for only a week or so and then I have to reset it. The dealer "fixed" it but it keeps happening anyway. But this is really not a major complaint and I'm not sure it is the dealer's fault. My main complaint with the dealer is that they won't store my summer or winter tires for me as a lot of dealers and tire shops do here. So I bought my winter tires from Commercial Tire and they store whichever tires I am not using at the moment. Other than that, the dealer did required maintenance satisfactorily.

I have seen three or four other Genesis (Geneses?) in Ottawa. That is not a lot, that's for sure. I feel that Hyundai could have done a lot more to advertise the Genesis but let's not get into that discussion again. On the whole, I am not afraid that Hyundai will stop making the Genesis.

Interesting you should mention that because when I bought my Genesis in Detroit and mentioned I was picking up winter tires the dealer asked me how interested I would be in them storing the tires for me. He said Hyundai was looking into doing that and looking for feedback. It isn't going to be as popular in the States, so I don't know if it will happen but up in Canada, in providences where snow tires are mandated, it would be.

P.S. So far my dealership experience has been great. They replaced my wheel caps, on the spot, from another car on the lot (they had plastic stuck to them.) There was a slight shimmy when I put the OEM tires back on and they rebalanced all of them....fixed. They agreed to recalibrate my winter tires TPS for free.

I bought my Genesis in St. Catharines Ontario in October 2008. I now have 57k km on the Odometer and have absolutely no regrets. The car is great and my service experience has been excellent. My nephew in Burlington who was considering a Genesis or a similar priced VW Passat CC, bought one, and he too is delighted with it. Like me he thinks it is the best car he has ever owned. Another friend in Toronto who was a long time Mercedes owner bought a V8 for his wife and she loves it. He is seriously thinking of buying a second for himself as he can't get her out of the drivers seat! They too have been very happy with the service from Hyundai.

From past experience with cars from Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi and even Ford (company car - no choice!) I can tell you that the sevice costs have been by far the most reasonable and the service experience on par with the best - and that includes Lexus, which was my previous benchmark.

Go buy one and find out for yourself. :welcome:

Thanks CanukV6, I feel better now. No doubt Genesis is a hit! I have been chasing that car for a while and it just grows better and better. Interesting what will change for 2011
Some korean forum indicates 8 speed transmission (but not Hyundai made) and GDI engine....
I'm getting closer to my dream car, time is ticking, I haven't seen one in Barrie, so I wonder if I would be first one there.....

I wouldn't buy this car in Canada. The cars are made by unskilled labor in India. Gauges are in Kilos and workers are known to sleep in the large trucks until the car gets loaded onto the ships. You might find some tainted underwear or a diaper in your trunk. I understand Canadian service persons at the dealers only speak French so you might have to take a dictionary with you when you change your oil. I recommend you cross the border to the good ole' US of A where we speak English and are more civilized in our ways. We have a President ya know. No Queen. On the other hand, you can have our President and we'll take the Queen--

What on earth makes you think you guys speak English, eh? :D

Loved it ;)

Hey CanukV6, let’s just intelligently ignore it, we all know the truth…
Anyway, keep focus on the topic, guys and gals, please!
If new Genie gets GDI tech and 8 speed branded tran, they we will have all new ball game!

The topic is whether you should buy in Canada or not? You're the one changing the topic with your "what ifs"-- Please stay focused.

Oh boy, oh boy, flyboy2...If you for just one second open your eyes and see a little bit more than just tip of your nose, then you would probably make educated guess that what I meant is to stay focus on Genesis, not to trash each other with some irrational and irrelevant comments. There is neither time nor place for it on that forum. Wouldn't you agree?!
If you want to contribute with some useful tips, then by all means! But just spare everybody trash talk!
So having said that, what's your thought about 2011 Hyundai Genesis sedan?

I think Flyboy was just introducing some well timed jocularity into the conversation - I don't think anybody was offended. :grouphug:

Now, as far as the 2011 Genesis is concerned, I would first consider how soon you want to buy a car. Past experience indicates that the 2011 model may not show up until most of the 2010's are sold, especially if there are going to be some significant changes. The new car might even be launched as a 2012 model even if it is released in 2011.

I think you may have it backwards as far as the rumoured 8-Speed transmission is concerned. Right now the V6 gets an Asian transmission and the V8 gets one built by ZF. The conjecture is that Hyundai have developed their own 8-Speed Automatic so that they don't have to pay Japan or Germany for the current 'brand' units.

Gas Direct Injection (GDI) is a likely engine development already introduced on the new Sonata 4-Cylinder engines. It provides better gas mileage and (depending how it is tuned) more power.

There is also a rumoured facelift in the works. If you can wait a while it is probably worthwhile, provided you don't mind being the first to test these new technical developments in the real-world, but it's likely that Hyundai will also use these changes to bump the prices up a little.

Oh no, I know that Hyundai works on their own 8 speed, but gathering from that Korean forum, it looks like they have some problems tuning it and may go with 8 speed ZF. If GDI strikes for Genesis, it's rumored for well over 300HP for V6! I guess we have to wait and see, for now it's just a rumor.

Wow, I just swung for some beer and there it was! The first one I saw in my town! Beautiful black V8! I asked guy, he bought it little over year ago. I asked about dealer service experience and he said first time he went for oil change, they asked him to come back in couple days and sent technician for training on Genesis.... Crazy!! Likely he was first one for that dealer. But since then apparently they got dedicated Genesis service station and all works OK, according to V8 owner. Now I feel really confident, you know.

Flyboy...........You rule!!!!!

I have seen three or four other Genesis (Geneses?) in Ottawa. That is not a lot, that's for sure.

There's a lot more around, I think...

I've seen some beige ones driving around downtown...

Really, Ottawa doesn't have tons and tons of higher-end cars. Audis/BMW/Lexus/etc are rare here compared to some neighbourhoods in Toronto...

If you have one, probably you are only one in town. You can enjoying rarity for long times.
There is no doubt Genesis sedan is great car.
But, weak brand image does not making strong sales.
