  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I find that when one rear wheel goes over a small pothole my car hesitates. I'm guessing the traction control is distributing power to the other wheels but it's not very smooth

Hesitates is putting it mild at times. I pulled out of a store onto a busy 2 lane road yesterday, where you need to "punch it" or you'll be waiting a long time for a big clearance. As you exit the store's lot, there is a little curb lip that you drive over. As I pulled out yesterday, the car completely bogged down as if I took my foot off of the gas - I glanced down and saw the traction control symbol flashing on the dash. Dangerous and unnecessary behavior for such a minor little bump in my opinion. I usually turn off TC in those situations, but forgot to - and almost paid the price.

I have not noticed this in my 5.0 Ultimate. I wonder if the automatic damping feature takes care of this.

I would highly doubt that - could be related to the way TC works with the H-Trac system (assuming your 5.0 is not a Candian AWD) or maybe you have not encountered the "right" situation yet?

I literally have the exact same thing happen to me....except its the parking lot driveway at work. Happens maybe 20% of the time, as the other 80% I am very careful to angle the car correctly and get the wheels in the right spot for the merge.

Glad I am not alone.

I believe there is a not so smooth redistribution of power from the normal rear wheel driving to the front wheels...

I own a 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate and I was driving down the interstate I95 FL in the median late (left) and a car in the middle lane was weaving, so I punched it at 70mph to get around the car. The car completely bogged down and the cars behind me almost hit me. They are probably wondering what kind of idiot I was. I went to the dealership and told them MY car was not going to have that happen again and to fix it.
SOLUTION: replaced fuel line. Kicks butt again...very happy now.

Are you able to go into more detail on this? What was the story with the old fuel line ?

Good luck, but don't count on this "fix." Genesis doesn't always respond well to suddenly flooring the accelerator. Much more reliable to gradually depress the gas pedal.

Sorry, I didn't ask the details about the fuel line solution. They didn't have the parts in stock though and it took 3 days with a loner car. The is fixed now it has been great ever since.

You are correct with the Genesis flooring the car response. (I am not a 25yr old kid screwing around with a 55k car) The managers were trying to tell me that it is was a governor of sorts with flooring the car. I told them that engineering of a 420hp engine that has been in the market (5.0 V8) for over 3yrs should NOT have a problem with full responses to acceleration. I also told them that if in fact the engine could not respond with full acceleration, if needed, it will not be underneath my butt. The main guy in the Hyundai garage agreed with me, stating a car should not bog down with full acceleration. I need to have a car that will perform as a proven engine should. With that said, I do believe in this car and understand the world is not perfect, but I need to have faith in what I have as my options with driving in the beautiful state of Florida.

On the VW Touareg forum back in 2004 we called the hesitation "death delay". It was a well known issue with those vehicles. It occurred when you accelerated from a stop and turned quickly, like may have described above. It is particularly hairy when you are pulling out across one short lane of fast moving traffic and quickly turning left. The drive line momentarily binds and seems to pause for a second. It doesn't happen if you are traveling over about 20mph.

Probably means fuel rail...the main supply to fuel injectors

Right.... but what on earth would cause problems with that in a 1 year old car?

Improper installation or mfg. defect ...it happens.
Lucky we have a great long warranty :)

First post to this forum and sorry to bring this thread back from the grave but I'm so glad I found this site and this thread. I have a 2016 Genesis Ultimate, and since I bought it have been having this issue, every time the rear wheel goes over a curb or hits gravel at low speed it dumps the throttle. Scary especially when pulling out from a store or my driveway. I took it back to the dealer and they said they couldn't reproduce the problem.

I will turn off TSC and keep the car in sport mode all the time after reading this and a few other threads.

PS - I found the answer to my other beef with this car. Since I have the Ultimate I'm not getting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. :-(

You should have insisted that the tech drive with you to show him the problem.
I had a suspension problem on another car I owned making noise...dealer said could not duplicate problem...But had the tech drive with me to show him the noise it made...guess what...he found loose bolts and fixed it

The issue with the TC is the following... I have experience it several times for my 6 months with the car.

Lets say you are on a "Give way" sign, the car is not moving. you want to make e left turn. you need to wait for the others, but you see how you can get in and you are hitting the gas pedal almost to the ground. wheels slip and the TC takes control ... it takes off your gas and the car almost stopped after you are with the half in the opposite lane.
very dangerous behavior. 2 times other cars almost hit me.
BUT when you hit the gas to the floor or you are in kick down the TC doesn't engages.
I found that in the winter when I go on one parking to spin around :)

Several people in this thread have mentioned that they had a problem with quick acceleration. I started a thread http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=19477 as I have a 2015 V8 that When aggressively accelerating, the shift seems to stall then buck - I do consider this dangerous when trying to merge on a highway or pass a vehicle. Has anyone found a resolution to this?

So I agree with the hesitation. I previously owned a 2016 G80 V6 and did the same. Moved into a G90 5.0 and found it there as well if not more !
Just last week at a stop sign leaving work, getting ready to pull out on to a 4 lane with traffic coming at you from both directions, the car bogs to the point where it just stops. You need to leave off the gas and either depress slowly or nail it…which in this case I needed to do. Scared the hell out of me. Is it the type of gas? I use the best I can with Shell or Sunoco.
I am a 68 year old and take very good care of this vehicle, never beat on it but I keep it running good. This is a scary situation to be in. I’m actually afraid to pull out of a stop if there’s traffic because you never know.
I haven’t addressed this with the dealer as they’ll most likely tell me to depress the accelerator slowly or its normal of this vehicle …in which it will send me to another place if I hear that.
Stay tuned or the car will get traded in !
