  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a new 2012 genesis sedan. My fuel pump us making
a loud clicking sound. My dealer says that this normal
due to the pump being under 12000psi of pressure
does any one else have this issue with their car?

When you're outside the car, it does have a clickity-clack noise, and anecdotal evidence from other makes/models of DI cars have reported the same thing. It's not something you can typically hear in the car, at least with the windows up.

That's a normal sound from DI engines. My 2012 Buick Regal Turbo was louder then my 2013 Genesis.

It's normal for my 3.8.

GDI pump is loud as on a diesel engine also. However since a diesel is already loud the pump noise is not noticed. I am still not 100% sold on GDI engines.

All the replies above about clicking noise being normal for the high pressure pumps are right. However, during a recent trip to my dealer, their Genesis service specialist said that they've been replacing quite a few high pressure pumps due to increased noise, over and above what's normal. So if your car is new and you hear the ticking sound, don't worry about it. If you've had the car for a while and you know the normal engine sounds, and you distinctly hear some new noise, have it looked at.

My 2012 makes a distinct knock or click, I took my backseat out and put my ear to the noise. Its right where the fuel pump is. The dealership has had a blooming idiot looking into it but can't replicate the noise. I've since recorded it on my phone (the noise), its noticeable. Have you had this problem fixed?

My pump was broke. The spring and valve came apart from pump. Car sounds like it needs timing chain. Hoping that’s due to that 120,000 psi it’s missing.
