  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just purchased a CPO 2024 GV80 2.5t. with 13,000 miles.

I am concerned because of the following situation. When accelerating hard ( Foot to the floor and in all modes but worse in Sport) , the car shift a few times then get stuck at 5,000 RPM, bogs down and will not speed up at all. In order to get the car to resume acceleration, I have to take my foot off the pedal and then press it again but not all the way. Is this normal? I hope not, because it is dangerous on highways with short on ramps where the traffic is heavy.

TYIA for any advice.

What gear and speed is it stuck in? Obviously, something not right. should shift and go.

Meantime, review driving habits.

I will have my wife record it while I am driving.

If this is replicatable, I would let the dealer handle it. That's some serious TCM management issues. Do you have paddle shifters?

Yes. I do have paddle shifters! That's a great idea. I will try and override it until I can get to a dealer almost 2 hours away. It shift to 2nd gear and rev limits at 5,000 RPMs unless I remove my foot from the pedal and release the kick down switch

It sounds like the car is holding the gear in expectation that you will need maximum power again shortly (which is why you find it even worse in sport mode). Some vehicles, like Toyotas, are heavy on the upshift and will upshift as soon as you let your foot off the gas, while some like BMW's will hold the lower gear for a while after you floor it, with the idea that you are in an emergency situation and are going to need immediate throttle again.

My old Toyota would upshift immediately as soon as you let off the gas, but my 3.5t GV80 likes to hold lower gears for a while before up-shifting if I've just given it some heavy right boot. As I've experienced this in BMWs in the past, it's not a concern for me.

This sounds like what happened to me on my 22. The dealer was able to fix it under warranty with no problem. I think it was a bad throttle body (although I could be remembering completely wrong.) I posted about this at the time. The first dealer couldn't fix it. The second dealer said the first dealer must have been incompetent because they hooked the computer to it saw what the problem was and fixed it in no time and the issue never came back. If it isn't easy for your dealer to fix pm me and I'll call my dealer and confirm what it was. I'll try to dig up my old comments and link them in case they are a help

I found two related threads in which I posted about this. In one I said the fix was the fuel injector so it may have been that and not the throttle body (I am embarrassed by how little I know about how cars actually work). Here are the threads...

Had similar with GV80 2023 however it would rev high and go no where. Did it several times in a row however when taken to dealer, unable to replicate. Dealer remarked the car may have been downloading an update at the time.

I can override this no shift while using the kick down by using the paddle shifter to regain control. There is a Rev limiter (5,000 RPM) at 3rd and it will not shift past it unless I remove my foot off of the switch and then with a delay So, far from a passing switch as it is working now. I will bring it to the dealer when it is due for service as the dealer is 2 1/2 hours away. Thanks!
