  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Since I've always liked looking at pictures of Genesis cars (any Genesis cars) I think we all share that part of the threads. I thought it would be interesting for all of us who have had Genesis cars in the past to share some pictures and insights as to the particular year the reason for the decision at the time for ownership and the pros and cons of each ownership. I'll start out with my first one a 2011 Hyundai/Genesis one with the top of the line Tech package. Research at the time had shone it to be a highly regarded car. It was Christmas eve 2010 we were the last customer in the store. The salesman was motivated to sell and get home. It was really a nice car a real highway cruiser. Very well put together and a real luxury car. The short comings were really two. The electronics wasn't yet up to par with the competitors. It was a handful to drive in anything but dry ground. It lacked what other luxury cars were offering at the time AWD which in the north east is quite desirable. Also, the safety technology was advancing rapidly from year to year so in 2015 when the new model with AWD was introduced not only was it good to look at it came with all the latest safety options and some unique to it.

The 2015 Hyundai/Genesis Ultimate was a great car. (in my opinion) It really showed that Hyundai could take building luxury cars seriously. It was all that I could ask for in a car if one is luxury orientated. The electronics were by now very good. The only issues I had with it were a couple of minor recalls (which didn't affect me) and the flat spot producing OEM tires that came with it (Continentals) which were replaced by Hyundai at no cost with better ones. Oh yes one other minor one it fit in my garage just a little too tight. Since I live in a townhouse in door garage space is limited with that and a driveway. During the ownership period we decided we needed something with a lot more interior space to haul big things around and so I could transport my bike to places. So, we purchased a full-size Santa Fe for that purpose which now lives in the driveway.

Now that we had a hauler which is very comfortable, we discussed a little smaller car for the garage. It wasn't long till the G70 was on my radar. At this point a little excitement was welcome. I had missed that aspect of driving since I traded in my G35X which by the way was a very fun car. The research made it abundantly clear the G70 was a serious contender as a luxury sport sedan and for a 1st time effort quite noteworthy for Genesis. By this time, I was leaning heavily towards the Genesis brand. Past experience with the brand and the commendable level of service at my local dealer was hard to gamble with. So, after a few test drives of completive brands relative to price per value my decision was clear. I understand from being on this site for a while that there are conflicting opinions for each model but I can only speak of my experience. I really enjoy my new Genesis it has put back the fun of driving into these old bones.

Similar or opposite experiences are welcome (minus any vulgarities and objectionable attitudes) as I believe this to be the spirit of this forum.

Awesome stuff! It was written. I like to hear stories from other Genesis/ Car Enthusiasts like my self.

Well written!

I have been interested in Hyundai for a while(specially the Azera) before I bought my first Korean brand. However, I was not confident in their products since I was used to owning mostly various VW, Volvo, Infiniti and Mercedes cars over the years. I did not trust BMW,Audi,Land Rover, and Korean(KIA/Hyundai) makes.

Yet, I became interested in the 2006 Sonata limited and 2006 Azera. They seem like nice cars at the time that was affordable, however I could not shake the Hyundai badge reputation as being low quality cars so I just stuck with what I knew which was mostly VW, Infiniti and Mercedes makes.

Well, I bought my newish(30k miles used) 2011 Mercedes E350 AWD in 2012 after I wrecked my low mile 2010 VW CC VR6(I loved that car) and I was really was bored with the E350. It handled like a boat compared to the CC, but it did turn heads so I kept it until the warranty ran out at 60k miles.

Fast forward to late 2014 I decided to check out a 2014 Black KIA Cadenza sitting on a KIA lot. It was a nice looking car, but it handled like the E350 which was boring. However, I noticed a sleek looking black 2014 KIA Optima SXL sitting not far away. It was loaded and even had Nappa leather cooled seats, which something my E350 did not have(fake leather MB tex with only heated seats). The Optima SXL test drive sold me. The 2.0T turbo engine in that car was strong(276hp) and it handled the curves like it was on rails. I was in love so I bought it.

However, I missed having a larger car so I sold it in 2017 for a loaded out low mile purple 2014 Buick Lacrosse on factory 20's with all the bells and whistles including HUD/active sport suspension. I was good with it until I saw a certain 2015 Black Genesis Ultimate 5.0 sitting on display at a Toyota dealership in 2018. The car was clean and it looked awesome on the display stand. The test drive sold me and I still have it today. I was little upside down on the deal ,but I really wanted the Genesis so I took a small hit to trade up for it. The Genesis was going pretty cheap anyway so a few thousand more to clear the trade did not hurt too much.

My 2015 Genesis Ultimate is perfect for me. It has the right size and power to keep me happy. I have all the latest options that I will ever need. The 2014 KIA Optima SXL helped my decision due to giving me confidence that current Korean makes are well made. I am still satisfied with the car 2 years later and do not want to trade it. No need.

I bought my 2015 used with about 45k miles on it and now has 72k miles and it still feels like a new car. No issues other than a backup camera that will not switch view angles. It is stuck in normal view no matter what view I select onscreen. The guide lines change but not the image. It has been that way ever since I bought it, but I do not want to waste time trying to have a Hyundai tech repair it since it is stuck in the mode I will use anyway.

So far the Genesis 5.0 is my most favorite car that I have ever owned, even more that my 2010 VW CC 3.6VR6.

My first Korean car (the 2014 KIA Optima SXL) that put me on the right path.

I had three Sonatas. 2007, 2010, 2013. Took the last one in for normal service and the service writer said they could update the computer since I was there. Sure, go ahead. Well, they fried the computer so the car was dead. The service writer said they would give a a loaner, a 2014 Genesis.

Next day I had plans to take my wife out to a particular restaurant about 60 miles up the road so we went in the Genesis. By the time I got home, I wanted one. Few months later I bought a 2015. Three years later, a 2018.

Hello all and thank you for the ownership stories.
I was always a fan of Ford Trucks, Jeeps and corvettes.
There was a long stretch of several Grand Cherokees at home and the usual deviations to some luxury cars when they were affordable. I bought a Jaguar Vanden Plas for my parents, which they enjoyed for many years, and that was always a joy for me to drive every once in a while to get it serviced.
I also had a Lincoln TownCar Cartier for many years and miles and enjoyed it on at least six trips from Miami to Montreal. That one was gone due to a rear end crash that totaled it.
I still keep two of my long lasting Corvettes, a 75 Stingray with about 69k miles that I mostly restored the interior on and got painted, and 93 40th anniversary car tgat is now about 44k miles.
Neither of them were fit to be good commute to work cars but did their share of daily driving for a period.
My love for Corvettes started back in 1975 when my dad gave me a magazine for my birthday that had a Stingray on its cover. I told him at the time that one day I would have that car, and finally bought one in 1992.
We bought our sons a Mercedes E420 to take to college, and that also served them very well
Fast forward a few years, one of my son buys his first car of his own, and it is a Genesis Coupe by Hyundai. Pretty little car, zippy and sporty.
I drove the Gen Coupe a couple of times and loved the handling. It drove as if it was on rails and reminded me a bit of the 93 vette handling with modern electronics and Bluetooth.
When the wife and I started looking to replace cars in 2016, we took a look at what Hyundai had to offer, and that's when we first saw the Hyundai Genesis, what is now the G80.
What a gorgeous car, with all fhe bells and whistles. I was dead set on a Gen Coupe at the time so I bought a 2016 ultimate, blue with brown interior and manual transmisión, just like the doctor had prescribed. The wife was hooked on the Azera, and she still loves it.
These two Hyundai cars have served us well, with no issues, and have had great service at our local dealers.
In 2017 I changed jobs , which required me to spend time in another state and city, and my son was looking to trade in his Gen Coupe for a BMW 440 lease.
The BMW dealer was basically eating the Gen Coupe away once told that the car had had front damage, mostly cosmetic, and had been very well repaired by a Hyundai dealer.
They did not budge on the low ball trade in, and as I needed a car for my new job location, I bought it from my son and drove it up to TN; where I had it for 2 and half years and close to 20 k miles. It took us on a couple of rides to Nashville and around the neighboring states, and my wife would always complain that it was a harsh ride compared to her Azera.
In between the pandemic and getting bored, i started looking at Genesis again once I took the Coupe for service a few months ago, and after seeing so many brand new 2019's still for sale (loaners and demo cars) I started digging some more into it.
The low financing rates were enticing too, so after some research and just a bit of negotiation, I ended up trading the trusty 2013 Gen Coupe and getting a 2019 G90 ultimate.
A demo car with a few miles on, driven by the owner of the dealership, still had all the plastic (and this posting reminds me that I still haven't taken them off) in the back seat console and vanity mirrors.
I am super happy with the G90, the ride, the comfort, the amenities, the safety features; and although I have read about some bad dealer experiences in service, I have nothing but good to say about mine.
This car reminds me of the many highway miles on the TownCar up and down the US east coast with my kids, and the joy in my parents faces when driving around in their Vanddn Plas.
I am hoping for many miles of safe trips with the wife and enjoying it to the fullest.
On its maiden long trip, I drove from Memphis, TN to Miami FL in one long sweep, something I have done before several times in a Lexus es300, and both of my Gen Coupes, and can say that it makes for a much more relaxed drive. I arrived at destination still fresh and not tired at all after the 16 hour drive.

I recently bought my first Genesis. It is a 2019 G80 Ultimate 5.0, dealer car with 2300 miles on it, full warranty. Prior to buying it I did quite a bit of research on the brand, haunted forums, usual due diligence. Came down to a choice between the Genesis, (safety), and the Lexus GS350.

Purchase ended up being out of necessity because of an accident. My wife's mint 2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner was totaled by an idiot. Got hit while stopped for traffic by an idiot in a Dodge 1500 doing 65-70mph. We are OK, neither of us remember the accident, knocked out, and woke up in the ER. My Guardian Angel from my days of hanging out the side of a Huey as a DG is still with me working OT.

I ended up being her driver because she doesn't drive my 05 F350, lifted with everything Banks makes on it, or my heavily modified 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, a racecar in street trim. 75lbs of DynaMat and still can't hear the stereo. Neither vehicle would be considered a "grocery getter."

The dealers here in Henderson, NV were not to thrilled when I requested something they didn't have on the lot. Took the wife on the hunt. She drove a G80 base with a V-6, a Lexus GS350, and looked at the G90 Ultimate. Genesis won. Now we had to find what we wanted. Genesis was no help. Finally, thank God for the internet, found 2 down in San Diego. Both white, 1 a tan interior, 1 a black interior. She decided on the black interior. We paid the dealer to ship the car to us after a friend checked it out.

No regrets so far. She loves the car. We, or I wanted the 5.0 because I love horsepower and cubic inches and the car weighs 4700lbs, 1300 more than the TBird. The Ultimate because I do not like haggling over options. Slowly learning all the functions. The owner manuals are like the tech manual for a jet. Thank God the dealer never registered the car so we did get the full warranty. I keep cars for a long time so I'm sure I'll need it at some point. I really appreciate the attention to detail, perfect gaps, no miss aligned trim, beautiful interior. Also love the cars lines. Well done. What you get for the money is well above most cars.

Bought my first new car in 30 years in April 2012 just after retiring from 31 years in the motor trade selling & owning predominantly used German luxury cars.

In April 2012 took delivery of a new 2013 Kia Rio SX sedan that was fun with lots of luxury features for cheap. In November 2015 traded the Rio for a 1 1/2 year old 2014 Forte SX Turbo Coupe Luxury with 10000 Kilometers that was lots faster & rode better. Traded the Forte in January 2018 for my current
1 1/2 year old 10000 kilometer 2016 Hyundai Genesis V6 AWD Luxury sedan that is the best car I've ever owned. Now @ 43700 kilometers I'm extremely happy & on the hunt for a low kilometer 2018 or 19 Genesis G80 Sport. Just love Korean cars & love especially the ride, quietness, comfort, power & fuel mileage of my Genesis ! I even like my Dealer( Who I didn't buy my car from by the way) SHOUT OUT to Precision Hyundai here in Calgary.

Happy New Year to All!
