  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife and I were just rear ended while sitting at a red traffic light by a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander (mid-sized SUV). The bumper on my 2009 3.8 has several scratches and gouges along with damage to the chrome molding. The rear panel the liscense plate is on is also smashed. Both head restraints deployed forward about 3 inches and minimized whip lash. The will be replaced and no one I have spoken with has seen or known of this feature, including Hyundai Body Shop personnel. I feel the car absorbed this crash very well, total damage assessment is not yet completed but a casual observence at the Hyundai Body Shop is at around $1500 and the other guys insurance has assumed all costs including a Toyota Camry rental. They tell me it will take 7-10 days for repairs.

I would say more like 10 to 12 days for the repair and from what you have said is damaged I expect the repair to cost more like 2500.00 to 3000.00. Check the paint closely for color and texture match before you take the car home. Look at the paint from all angles. A good paint/body shop can repair and paint it so you cannot see the repaired area.

Others (including myself) have been reporting around 1500 for bumper damage. Adding in the headrests, and it will probably be another 1000.

Thanks for the information, I'll update this when its all said and done. One more thing, the driver that hit me never apologized, even while 10 feet from my wife while EMT's were checking her out.

Insurance companies advice policy holders to not make any comments to the other party in a crash, other than to exchange information (drivers license, insurance, etc). They are specifically instructed to not say anything that might admit guilt or responsibility. You can thank ambulance-chaser law firms for that situation.

Shame on me, I believe I use the "F" word three times as I got out of the car to anyone within shouting distance!

That's OK, so long as you don't admit guilt or liability. However, in some cases charges can be filled against if you had cursed at another motorist in a threatening manor.

Got my car back today and the total came to $2366.25, including $747 for two new headrest assemblies. They did an escellent job, can't tell by looking that it was ever hit.

I am glad you guys came out of it with no injuries and your car is back good as new.

So, it's about $2'500 if a Genesis get's rear ended. Anyone know about what it costs if you rear end someone?

front bumper
grill
servo controlled HID head light assemblies
parking distance sensors
adaptive cruise control sensors

Without searching the forum I'm guessing about $7'500 to $10'000

haha not quite. my front end was hit at the mall a little over a year ago. i was making a left turn and some impatient guy went on the wrong side of the road around me hitting me. quarterpanel, grill, front bumper, and both headlights and wiper fluid reservoir had to be replaced. i dont have "servo controlled HID head light assemblies", "parking distance sensors", "adaptive cruise control sensors" and the hood wasnt even damaged. parts and labor was about 15-16K...... and the worst part of it was that the guy who hit me didnt have insurance so he was not forced to pay anything. everything came out of pocket :(

prepare yourselves for these pics.....
