  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Be interesting to see an eventual comparison regarding quality control between the Korean-built GV70s and the Alabama ones.

If my US built Sonatas are an example, quality will be excellent. I imagine the mrthodology is pretty much the same.

Hey EdP, on another subject, why do you think this forum doesn’t have “general discussion“ boards? It’s peculiar from my perspective. I find that when I want to start a new post, none of my options are really viable, so I end up posting less new content in the final analysis.

What‘s your take? (And since I am the OP, I don’t mind hijacking this post. Lol;)

There is this one:

There are a lot of topics of interest to many, such as this one, even if you are not a GV70 owner.

Thank you EdP. I forgot about that link.

Yep, not a big fan of US built cars quality wise. Have had Fords, Pontiac, Chevy and Buick prior. . All have had weird problems from piss poor paint that had failed clear coat, head gaskets that leaked, engine mounts that crapped out in 30k miles, A/C air-control servo motors crapped out, my Honda, Mazda’s, Infiniti, all built in Japan have had no issues other than normal maintenance. Given a choice, would take an Asian assembled car over a US built one. Love to support US manufactured items where possible, but my experience with cars has showed more issues related to US cars than foreign built.

I'm confused. Honda has a plant in US. Some Mazda are built in the US. Some Infiniti are made in the US.
I think you are saying you prefer companies, mostly Asian, that use strict QC methods in building cars as opposed to what the Big 3 turned out for many years.
I agree with that.

You are correct, not a fan of unions either but they do have some use in creating good benefits for employees. My CX9, MX5, old 2005 Civic, and my G37 all said made in Japan. I no longer have the G37. There was a time years ago where Honda dealers had certain stock of both US and Japan made vehicles. Back when Honda had a hard time keeping up with demand they were importing some over to keep up with the needs. Strange walking the dealers lot and seeing identical cars but one was made here and one was foreign. Yes, Asian culture and desire to build in quality I think is better than our big 3 Union shops. I’ve been to Korea, China and Japan at aircraft parts suppliers where cohesiveness, working together and empowerment are just different than over here. My opinion anyway. Not knocking US company’s, things are just different.

Perhaps it's a coincidence but my Alabama built eGV70 with 595 miles is already in for repairs (See THIS post for the issue). So far the dealership has had it in their possession the same amount of time that I owned it. Can't assume my issue is due to assembly though. Just thought I would throw my issue in the ring to compare to future Alabama builds to see!

I also have a rattle in my steering wheel that I asked to be addressed but overall, everything else is amazing. Doors, hood, & all panels are perfectly aligned, car drove perfect. Paint was excellent (minus the paint swirls from the dealership car wash.... sigh).

The only major problem I have is they did all this work to try to get it to qualify for the EV tax credit only to be dismissed due to battery sourcing so I am out the $7500 that everyone was pushing.

This also includes the ICE versions.

Here’s the story:

Someone should tell Genesis Concierge. Last week I had two of them tell me only the 2024 GV70 EV is being built in Alabama. According to them, the gas versions are still built in Korea 🤷‍♂️
