  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

hmm used Hyundai

The HMM Platinum is bumper to bumper for whatever term is called out in your contract. Apparently with your 100K miles they will go to 4 years/48K miles. It's up to you whether that extra coverage is worth the cost (it might be at half the price you're quoting, but 2.8K sounds way high). If I were looking at this deal I'd go elsewhere - there are plenty of previously owned Genesis' out there.

Re Jim Ellis Hyundai - the guy I dealt with is the business manager, Haub Cao <haub@jimellis.com>

thanks calling them now...

it seem real shady that Hyundai doesnt have a set standard all across the board for warranty, they dont have a brochure telling people what is cover and what is not even though its "Platinum". it seem Dealership more or less screwed people over without telling them.

True - there is no brochure, but when you apply for the policy a copy will be sent to you for signature, etc. You can read it, take it to your attorney, whatever, before you commit your $$

wow I just learned another shady thing. So I call hyundai HQ and talk to a Rep to make sure the dealership is not yanking my chain. According to the rep ALL hyundai extended warranty are through a third party, even though its call Hyundai Protection Plan, its through another company, I dint ask what it was but I just thought thats not reassuring at all.

Correct - my policy is underwritten by Fidelity Warranty Services. I think I read here recently that a different company is now underwriting new policies. But there is nothing fishy about this - it's how insurance works.

in a sense they are charging you more for a 3rd party company, dont you think its fishy?

the same policy from fidelity could cost 500 less than what hyundai quoted you, but because you are buying essentially the name "Hyundai Protection Plan" they jack that price up. I dont know if it smart bussiness tactic or lying to the customer, probaly both.

I don't see what's fishy. That's how all business works.

You outsource things that are not your area of expertise, and from a brand equity perspective, you put your name on it, if it makes sense.

Normal stuff.

If the consumer can get it cheaper elsewhere, by all means they should do it. But that doesn't mean there's an unethical practice.

I'd rather have a policy with the maker's name on it than a third-party direct policy from a company that will attempt every possible way to avoid paying claims.

Keep in mind with the HPP there are certain exclusions, even on the bumper-to-bumper version. For example, the Platinum wty does not cover either the smart cruise control or the parking sensors; and for 2012 it seems to not cover the LDWS.

Not sure if the car you are considering has these, but a reminder for all.

the 09 does not have the smart cruise control :(

anyway thanks everyone for the input, I went ahead and picked up the vehicle and Dg_moore refers me to Hau-B of Jim ellis hyundai in georgia, he gave me a pretty good quote on a 4 years 48k warranty and 4years 60k maintenance plan (way better than the one that was offer at the original dealership) I reccomend Hau-b for any future "Used" genesis owner, the price is awesome and I hope the warranty is awesome too, although I rather have my car not breaking down.

Hi Shady,

I got my 2009 4.6 with tech package with 51k miles for 19k in Canada (our cars are more expensive) here. Having done a lot of pricing research before picking mine up 2 weeks ago, I find your price a bit on the high side considering the mileage.

Mine is also a certified pre owned and I have 2 yr/24000 bumper to bumper after the the 5/60 manufacturer warranty is up.

Cheers,
