  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm not committed to getting a GV60 but it's definitely high up on my list. Before I commit I'm curious if the model of car really matters for the charger I get. I understand Teslas use their own but it seems like every other car on the road has the same connector. Is that true?

With the exception of Nissan, yes.

All the wall box is, for the “dumb” charger at least, is a glorified extension cable, with a little handshaking logic to tell the car how many amps it can draw. To my knowledge you can buy any wall charger that has the right connector…. I would get one that can deliver as many amps as your installation will deliver even if it’s more than the GV60 can take (48A max.).

I bought the Autel 50A version for the “smart“ capabilities, as my iPhone app was not working at the time, this way I could monitor if the car was still charging and how much charge it had added.

My Genesis App has since started working, but thats another story.

If you are EV shopping but unsure of the brand the best thing you can do is to ensure you have a high amperage (at least 30, ideally 50+) 240 volt outlet available for charging. Here in North America that is they type of outlet used by clothes dryers or industrial equipment. 'Level 2 chargers' are basically just extension cords for that AC outlet.

Wow. Super helpful everyone. Thanks so much.

I've read good things about Autel. Sounds like they do a lot of diagnostic tools for cars too.

This site recommended the ChargePoint HomeFlex. It looks like its a solid unit and will do the 48 amps like you mentioned. I'm going to keep looking but I appreciate the help. (EVs sure can be confusing when you're just getting started).

You will get 80% of whatever amperage your line supports. So a 50 amp line will deliver 40 amps to the vehicle. But for the battery in the GV60, that is ample. Anything more will probably not do you any good on the GV60 but could be future proofing your house for your next vehicle.

We bought 2 x Emporia as they were pretty well received by Will Prowse and another YouTube channel, reasonably priced ($409 and $364 for the 2 units I bought refurbished) and support energy monitoring, 48 amp charging. So far doing well.

My only complaint (so far) is, I really wanted a “dumb” unit but they don’t seem to make the higher amp ones without WiFi. I have recently been having issues with my internet & the EVSE would stop, despite supposedly being able to work without a connection, proving my original thoughts.

I bought and had a chargepoint unit installed. When I first tried to use the app, I couldn't. I reached out to customer support and after a couple of days they had me delete and reinstall the app. That worked. But in the interim I had the chargepoint unit working to electrify my GV60 (including only up to 80% which I programmed into the car). So the Chargepoint unit will work with or without the internet.
