Home screen freezes up

When I went to the dealer on Saturday my advisor told me that the car that came into the shop with the issue they did replace the antenna and the cable to the radio. That did not fix the problem sad to say.

Same issue on my 2015 3.8 Ultimate. Going to dealer on Friday although my hopes are not high they find a fix.

I belong to the G80 Owners page on Facebook. One of the other members reported on there that it took two new head units being installed & a complete satellite radio antenna replacement to correct the issue. I have an appointment with my dealers on Tuesday. I emailed the service department a video of how the head unit is behaving but they are unsure of how to address the problem? Hopefully one of us will get a definitive answer on how to fix this problem so that we can share it with the group.
Hey guys, I'm new here and found this thread since I was having the same issues with my 19 G80 Sport. Mind you I have done zero map or other updates since I bought the car new in March 2019. The problem started happening a couple weeks a go and I decided to live with it and see what happens. After about a week, I brought it into the dealer while it was actively not working and a service rep got in the car with me and verified something was not obviously right. The symptom at the time was the satellite radio would get stuck on a single station. Although I would toggle to the next preset, the audio was still coming from the first station. He reset the radio with his pen and of course the problem went away and he said to make an appointment if it happens again. Well, of course it happened again soon thereafter and I brought it back today. This time, they hooked up the diagnostics and I sat in the car with a technician. His initial diagnosis is that the head unit needs to be replaced and this is NOT a Sirius/XM issue nor some other type of software issue. That's all fine to get a new head unit under warranty, but of course my concern is it just a matter of time before it happens again? This head unit is no longer in production I assume with the 2021's out so whatever is lying around somewhere in some Hyundai warehouse will have the same inherent defect associated with it.

Thanks everyone for the additional information.

I think this issue needs to somehow get escalated within Genesis as it is obviously some sort of systemic problem. I have doubts that throwing a new head unit here, or a new antenna there will actually correct the problem. Any ideas on how we raise the profile of the problem?

Mine started to do the same thing before I traded it! No update was done ,but I sure was. Good ridance.

Just went to my dealer for service on 19 G80. Am having the same issues as everyone else and I have not done any upgrades recently from Mapnsoft. He told me that it is a major issue and they are working on a fix. He seems to think that XM has changed something which causes the problems with the freezing issues.

We will have to wait and see what happens.
That’s interesting my problem didn’t show itself before until after the XM subscription.

I have had the same problem for last few weeks. Finally I called the local dealer and they ordered the new head until and it was installed yesterday. Drove to work this morning and it's happening again. This issue has nothing to do with the new radio unit, it's something else that is wrong. And from looking at other responses, it is a bigger issue.

I just purchased a 18 G80 Sport. And have noticed the home screen will allow you to move to each icon, but won't let you choose them. I have tried touching the screen, as well as the center knob. Neither will let me enter into any app. Or it will freeze when in an app. Can't change the radio or use the navigation. Anyone experience this?
I have a 2019 G80 and my screen freezes too. It started about a week ago. Can't select anything except what it freezes on. Have a scheduled appointment at the dealer today and will have them check it.

I am continuing to troubleshoot my XMSirius radio issue posted here.
I e-mailed Mapnsoft. They basically said re-run update, not our problem contact your dealer.

I've manually re-ran the update several times using the 14.10 SD card obtained from MapnSoft. Interestingly these updates only took ~5 minutes versus original update took ~40 minutes. This did not fix the issue. No changes in functionality/disfunctionality.

I did notice the 2nd and 3rd screens of my XMSirius radio presets (presets 7 -> 17) did not/never showed the "Record" icon. The Record icon is shown for the 1st screen/presets 1 ->6. "Record" icon allows to rewind to the beginning of the current song being played.

I deleted the 2nd and 3rd screens of my XMSirius radio presets (presets 7 -> 17). After 5 car starts over 2 days my XM Sirius issue did NOT re-occur.
After this change I am still seeing the screen switch from XMRadio to Home screen and XMRadio sound drops out for ~5 seconds periodically though.

Next steps:
3) Add back in in presets 7 -> 17 that were deleted by me.
2) "Refresh XMRadio signal" using XM website
3) Download 14.10 update, copy to on previous/old Mapnsoft updated SD card and update in car again.
4) Check cable connections on DIS and antenna. I'm not sure I can get to these connections without a lot of work/disassembly.
4) Delete all user data (option in setup). I want to avoid this as setting all back up takes considerable time.

I was just in contact with Genesis of Cherry Hill (NJ) and they are placing the blame on a Sirius/XM update. I've asked to be notified when Genesis has a fix. Until then I've found to unfreeze the system is to keep a pen in the cup holder and when it locks up press this button:

wow! i just started having this exact issue, and showed it to my dealer. they replaced the radio, and 5 minutes after i left the dealership it started happening again. it is back in the shop today with them saying they might need to replace the antenna. we will see.
my radio worked fine, then one day it didn't, and it is consistently screwed up now. using the reset button helps sometimes, but only for awhile.
i am confused about software updates; most of the posts seem to suggest that updates were user installed. does the system auto update? i have never seen a prompt to update, nor have i ever looked for a manual update selection.
is there a way to check versions?

after reading some of the new posts here, i sent this link to my service advisor where my car is sitting trying to get a fix (under warranty).
he said they have a call in to genesis and are waiting for a reply. i will update this post with whatever i hear from them.

oh, forgot to post this fact; I had a 21 G70 loaner for 3 days, no issues. I now have a 20 G70; no issues. any thoughts???

These systems are constantly receiving (and probably transmitting) data. It's possible the data stream, whether it be Mapnsoft, Genesis Connect, traffic, weather, etc. being sent to these cars contains new instructions that the Genesis hardware cannot process thereby locking the applications running on the hardware. It seems the GUI freezes for the Genesis stuff but the radio continues to play along with the Waze and Pandora apps (including their GUI) in Android Auto.

If this is the case the hardest repair is going to be who takes responsibility to make the correction! Genesis, Sirius/XM or whoever else is communicating with the system.

A cursory perusal of this thread indicates the issue is applicable to G80's with the 9.2-inch HD navigation system with DIS Multimedia Controller (in dash). The software/firmware for the DIS is likely different for the various years and DIS hardware installed. The newer G80's have a different DIS (fugly ipad glued to the top of the dash ;)).

The software versions can be obtained from Home\Setup\Version

The Navigation updates can be obtained from Genesis Mapcare | Customer Login. You can order an SD card or download the software.

After speaking with my service advisor late this afternoon he informed me that Genesis is well aware of the problem. Genesis is working on a fix which they are hoping will be able to be done over the air. There is a chance that it will have to be done manually through the touchscreen? He hopes that this isn’t the case because it requires pushing a certain spot on the screen in a special sequence which will open a hidden engineering menu that is completely in Korean. Genesis is hoping to have the fix worked out & sent out in about a month.

I'm having the same issues as everybody else. I upgraded to 14.10 a month ago and it seemed to work fine for a couple weeks and then about 2 weeks ago I've noticed the following:

  • Random Freezing screen
  • Unable to change the SiriusXM Channel (Each channel shows "Acquiring Signal...")
  • Periodically SiriusXM pauses and it flashes "Featured favorites updated" on the top of the screenand then SiriusXM starts up again
  • Randomly going to the Home screen

I've reset everything to Default settings in the System Info screen and did a reset of the head unit by pushing the button right above the CD player for 5+ seconds and the issue just comes back.

There might be something to the SiriusXM theory causing the issues since I didn't have any issues for the first 2 weeks after the update AND there are some people experiencing the issues without updating. Since then, I noticed the issues occasionally, and now it happens EVERY time I drive. I tried timing how long it takes before the issues start popping up, but it seems to be random.

The only fix is to either turn off the car or do a hard reset of the unit, but that only fixes it temporarily.

My warranty is nearly up and I thought about taking it to the dealership, however, this is clearly a software issue(possibly SiriusXM content) and not a hardware issue since a lot of people are experiencing the same behavior for the past couple weeks.

Please share if you find the magic bullet.

MODEL / MODEL YEAR:
2018 G80 (9.2-inch HD navigation system with DIS Multimedia Controller)

PART NUMBER:
1411SP2_DHPE

MAP VERSION:
NAM.13.47.50.610.001.3

Happened to me today too. Genesis corporate and the dealers are completely unaware.

Same thing started with me a week or so ago. I have a 2017 G80 with HD nav system. It's been about a year since I updated the maps. A couple of observations. Stopping and restarting car seems to reset the system. Also, I don't ever remember seeing those record buttons previously. It is slightly encouraging that all of us are having the exact same problem. It's hard to imagine that this isn't due to a SiriusXM change.
