  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Home screen freezes up

Do NOT advise to do battery disconnect!!!!

It will affect other systems too, and may cause issues.

To reset the head unit/nav use the reset button on the right side. Small little black button, use a pen to push it for 10 sec. That is the hard reset.

This is what my dealership told me to do
How would disconnecting the battery affect other systems? What if your battery died? Outside of maybe losing radio stations I don't know what else it would do. Seems like the small button is more of a restart than a hard reset. This thing acts like there is too much of the RAM being occupied. If you could only clear the cache.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

That is exactly what is happening. It is the only explanation for why it is acting the way it is.

Here's a text I got from my Service Concierge March 17th:

Was this an update just for your systems or for every Genesis? My Genesis person is claiming they disabled the travel link signal (I feel like they didn't). Mine is still showing no improvements. In fact, as slow as ever.

Did you give your radio ID, and HW ID and other info for Genesis? They need to add you to the list. That is how mine Travel Link got paused

I gave them the VIN and me Radio ID. I am assuming that is what you mean by HW ID? He told me that HMA processed my request. He said it is probably my hardware but I know that isn't true. They must have not actually disabled it.

I don't have exact answer, the service tech said when owners disconnected the battery some weird things started happening. Moonroof did work all the time, Blue link remote start got slow, TCM and PCM had to be reset.l, seat sensor didn't work all the time...

Perhaps the way how it was disconnected OR reconnected have something to do with this...

In fact Scotty Kilmer has a video on YouTube about why not to do it on highly computerized cars. Even he said only (primitive) older toyotas (he is toyota fan sooo.... ok...) like corolla , camry could do reset things with battery disconnecting

When you go to your radio info there are bunch of IDs. I gave those and I was put on the list.

Now... if Genesis somehow didn't turn it off OR XM radio didn't do what Genesis said...I would recommend calling XM radio and cancel or pause your travel link. Keep checking this forum and if I get an update I will let you guys know.In that case it is safe to turn it back on...

I had my travel link disconnected and my volume control froze today, so its a part of the problem at most. You can tell if they actually did it by pushing the "traffic" button, If you get an unavailable now, try again later, its disconnected. Also you shouldn't see any traffic info on your nav system.

That is great to hear. You must have had a better guy than I got. Mine didn't give me any details. Do you happen to know why some would still be frozen after Sirius XM was cancel and disabled by Genesis? I had it done yesterday but mine is still frozen today.
Mine is still frozen after disconnect and I know that it was disconnected because none of the travel link services work anymore.

What I don't understand is why they can't just revert to the previous coding that worked fine til they figure this out.

Ok, well I am glad to hear I am not the only one still having the issue. Mine is still so frozen that I can't even get to where I would see that it was disconnected.

I have the ultimate system with the 9.2 inch screen. Are the ones that have been fixed so far the 8 inch screens with the Android processors? I am just trying to figure out how long I will be without the radii. I think it has almost been 2 weeks without it.

Are there any programmers in our group who could advise how to "clear the cache", perhaps in Engineering Mode" to help fix the continuing freezing issue?

I do not know if this issue affects only the Ultimate versions with the Intel chip...
What if you stream radio or youtube or anything from your phone via Bluetooth?Does it freeze? This can be a backup radio option.

I am not sure that would fix anything. When you delete the cache, as soon as you get the travel link signal the system is working in the background to load the data...

In theory the reset botton does that too... but like I said, data gets probably reloaded via satellite...

Complete data delete can be done with updating your software. I think I mentioned before, maps and OS updates are free now to download, and the install is fast. It cannot hurt... I updated mine, it is better just got a few annoying stupid changes, but mostly improved everything

I can’t even get there. It will show my phone is connected but as soon as I hit the media button, it freezes up. I hope my system is fine. It was working one minute and then less than a minute later it was frozen. This is why I think it is the signal issue. The ram needs to be cleared or something. I am not will to pay $3000 for something that somebody else broke.

How can I update my system when I can’t get to the update screen? If I insert the new version via an SD card, will it start to update without me touching the screen? Also the update is blocked right now because they are working on a new one. Do you or anyone else know of a way I can get a previous update, I am still on version 6? Otherwise, I will have to wait until the end of April or longer to update my system and be able to use it.

I see... well you may not need to do that, in fact head unit change did not seem to fix this, as others said. I would call xm radio to turn off all travel link. Rest the radio with the black botton after that. After the reset the travel link won't drop data to your car's system. If that data is not reloading there should not be anything to freeze your system.

If it does freeze after all that I recommend above to do... I would do a system update because there might be something that would the update overwrite that is causing this. This way any change the travel link had caused would be changed or overwritten and you don't have new travel link signal to mess things up again...

How does this sound?

Well for me, I put the SD card in, that the software formatted and prepared all files for the car (used my laptop 💻 , installed the software that handled the SD card prep), started the car and the update question popped up automatically immediately. I clicked yes with the rotary knob not on the screen per say.

If your system becomes unresponsive fast and this is caused by the data stream via travel link you can still do what I said. Cancel travel link, reset radio with that black small button and if you can perform the update.

Thank you for all of your help. I have done the majority of what you suggested except the update. I can get access to an update right now because it is not on the website. If you have a way I could get one, even if it isn’t the latest one, that would be amazing. I am just stuck right now. I am concerned once I get an update, I won’t be able to tell the system to update. I can’t go in to settings right now and I think you have to go into there ones you insert an SD card.
