  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Purchased Genesis in May 2012 and was able to get Homelink to work with my garage opener the first time using the instructions in the Owner's Manual. New board had to be putin garage opener unit and I need to re-program the Homelink button. None of the instructions are working now. Anyone have this issue and success getting it reprogrammed?

I could never get mine to work.
I called both Hyundai and Homelink.
They said the instructions should have worked.
Gave up and purchased a small remote.

Here is what worked for me:

PROCEDURE:
1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. This refers to the buttons on the Genesis mirror.

NOTE: Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons (other than the first button).

2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink mirror, keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.

3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and the hand held transmitter button.

DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly.

When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. The rapid flashing indicates successful training and the procedure is complete. This also indicates that the garage door opener does not use rolling code technology.

Note: The garage door may open or close during this step.

Steps 4 through 7 are only necessary if the HomeLink button appears to be transmitting after step 3, but the garage door does not operate.

4. Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light. If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released. If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device.

5. At the garage door opener receiver press and release the “learn” or “smart” button.

NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step.

7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release”sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process. If successful, your garage door should open or close during this step.

A lot of units you have to program once with the handheld unit, and on your actual receiver there is a button you press to "learn" inbound transmissions, at which point you have 30 seconds to send at least three attempts from your vehicle to get it to program correctly.

What receiver unit do you have?

landtuna,

I appreciate your response, but those are the directions straight out of the owner's manual. As mentioned, they are now not working for me.

Dimitry, those instructions are for 2011. My car is a 2012.

These are the instructions that worked for me, both with my 2010 and my 2012.

The key is, programming a rolling code Homelink is a two step process. You have to program it the first step as if you don't have a rolling code device, then follow up as if you do.

I have a 2012 5.0 Tech and I had gave up after about 50 try's from June thru September and you sent me the steps and I had never done all 7 steps in a row and when I did it worked and it is a Chamberland rolling code. This is the 6th car I have had with homelink and until the Genesis I always programed it the first time it was always easy until this one.

Thank you so much!

I found the culprit. Me and my Liftmaster control panel by my garage door (which I don't have instructions for.) You have to press the "prog" button and hold. It will first read "learn remote control" and then it will say "press prog button again." When you do, the garage opener will click, go and press the Homelink button you want to program and it's done.

Sweet! Not having your garage open for you is a pita, especially in inclement weather. Nice to see yours is working.

Since this seems to be a recurring topic, Homelink has specific instructions. Follow the link below. Select Garage Opener or whatever it is, then it'll prompt you for your car make/model and garage opener make/model and give you specific instructions for your combination. Worked perfect for my 09 and Chamberlain door opener.
