  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings,

Purchased my 2015 3.8 about a month ago.

Tinted the windows and got new tires and extended warranty since.

I was super happy and my friends couldn’t believe that I had abandoned a long history of owning European vehicles.

Two weeks ago I started getting a mild vibration which is now much more pronounced. Based on sharing my experience with others it may be my rear driveshaft. I have an appointment this Thursday to have it looked at.

All cars break and all cars require maintenance. The timing is what is throwing me off a bit specially with the naysayers that went on to tell me how it’s still a Hyundai blah blah blah.

Just hoping it’s nothing major and that they can troubleshoot it quickly. I’ve heard others say things like “Dealership couldn’t replicate the issue...” or “they recommended an alignment.”

I want to get back to liking this beauty as much as I did on day one.

Hopefully it is a quick fix. A dozen years ago I'd have agreed with your friends. Then on recommendation of someone that drives nice car, i test drove one. Then bought it. I've now had a total of 5 Hyundai/Genesis cars and all have been far superior than the GM, Ford, Mercedes, VW products I drove for years.

You have good taste, you will get the last laugh on your friends.

Thank you Sir! Looking forward to it!

Good luck, hopefully they will take car of things without any hassles.

So here’s my update. Had the vehicle checked out my Hyundai today. They tell me I need new front brakes which I am aware of. They tell me that bad rotors could have an impact on the vibration of the vehicle. I gave the go ahead for the front brakes. They send me an a ride with the technician. While riding with the technician the vibration is still there, I pointed it out a few times while it was happening and as I would see the steering wheel. The technician just nodded in denial telling me that he doesn’t see anything out of the norm. Not sure if they are trained this way but it’s pretty annoying.

What are my options here ??

That is disappointing. Try going back and taking the service manager for a ride and see if he notices it. If he doesn't in the passenger seat then have him drive to feel it.

You may need a sit down (and a ride) with the service manager or dealer manager. Yes, brakes and rotors can cause vibration and can agree they probably needed replacement. I put 39000 miles on my 2015 and 17000 on my G80 and they both stop perfectly smooth. You should have no vibration. Let them drive it and see.

Agreed. I own a few other vehicles and I have owned quite a bit. It’s one of my hobbies.

Yes, the vibration at braking has seized as expected. But that’s not my issue. The issue is the constant vibration, mild and sometimes more pronounced despite riding on good roads and having new tires. They even did the road force balancing...

Sometimes I feel a slight skip with the vibration which further alludes to rear driveshaft.

Thanks.

Brake vibration is frequently caused by uneven tightening of lug nuts. I always loosen and retighten lug nuts with a torque wrench when I have tires rotated.

*Update:

Last visit, 2 weeks ago, I went in with 4 brand new tires. They performed a road force balance and sent me on my way. Told it was addressed.

Not resolved...

Went in today for the third time. This time had a more stern conversation with Service Advisor. We immediately hit the road and went for a ride. He heard the howling sound when I would step on the gas and also felt the mild vibration.

An hour and half later service advisor informed me that they ordered me a new differential. They pin pointed the howling and winning noise to the differential and figured it may also be the reason for the vibration.

Differential expected to arrive this Thursday and I may get the car back that same day.

I will report back when I have it.

That’s all for now

Thanks for the update, hopefully that takes care of it. Too bad it had to be like pulling teeth.

Thx!

Yeah, it’s kind of sad to think of how many people go home and settle for their initial assessment. Luckily, I have owned too many cars and I still have several here now to know what feels normal and what is and anomaly.

Good luck. Certainly hope this fixes your issue.

We had a first gen Chrysler minvan, and by first gen, I think it was the first one in Oklahoma. From day one it had terrible road noise. My dad took it in over and over. Multiple transmissions were replaced, but the sound never went away. My dad was not a fun person to deal with when he liked you, so you get the idea. This continued till the thing had 30 - 40k, and needed new tires. You guessed it.... sound gone!

So I say let them replace everything :)

Joe.
