  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All,

I'm fairly new here, so excuse me if this has already been beaten to death, but here goes.

I recently purchased a 2022 GV70 and took it to a car wash. I know, I saw a Youtube video where they noticed the side chrome faded after doing this. I noticed that all the black, surrounding the Genesis name, on my hood emblem is now gone after a car wash. Any ideas how to correct this? Do I need to replace the emblem with a new one, and, if so, is there some sort of sealer to put on it to prevent this from happening again? Or, do I replace the emblem with a new one and never go to an automatic car wash again?

Thanks,
George

George, I purchased a 21 new and take mine to the car wash all the time. My hood emblem an chrome are all fine. I will say that the visor that hangs off the the rear roof to cover the rear window is a bit worn looking. As of yet I have not tried to do anything to it to bring it back to life, but I see several products that are supposed to do this. PS, my car sits in the hot South Florida sun all day as it is not garage kept.

If you need/want to replace it check out the KDM warehouse on this forum.

You can replace it, of course, but it was not one pass through the car wash that wiped it out. You don't know what the previous owner did with it for the past couple of years. If concerned, spray a clear coat on it.
You have a couple of options

Hello Jhon,
Funny, I live, and purchased the car, in Massachusetts, however the car came from Miami. Don't know if the previous owner kept it garaged or not. However, the emblem was black when I purchased it. Wasn't until I took it to a car wash that I noticed all the black was gone. Now have to look at it close to make out the word Genesis.
Before purchasing it, I had watched a Youtube video of two people who were reviewing it after owning it for a while, and they claimed that the chrome accents around the windows were fading. When they contacted Genesis to ask about this, Genesis told them it was due to too many trips to ma car wash. Odd.

Hello EdP,
The car wash does seem to be the culprit. It was fine when I purchased it, and I did not notice the black completely gone until after the wash. Don't know what they're using, but I'll avoid that particular car wash from now on.
Thanks for the sites for the replacement badges. I'll probably purchase a new badge and take your advice and clear coat it. Much appreciated!

Have a good one,
George
