  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've had my G70 for 2 weeks and loving the car overall. But lately have noticed a pretty good sized gap between the hood and front left fascia. Right side gap is smaller, but still not as close as I'd like. In the below pics, I was able to fit 3 quarters in the gap and that is the narrower side of the gap. Moving closer to the front, I can almost fit 4 quarters. In addition to this, the hood is not quite flush with the other panels and sits a bit high. Saw the other thread on this and that the dealer was able to improve, but not fix this completely.

How many quarters can you fit in your G70 hood gap at the widest point? Should I take this to the dealer now or wait til service? Yeah it's a little annoying, but not sure I want to make a trip there just for this.

Finding spare change is difficult in a world with less and less cash but I did manage haha. I was able to just barely fit 2 quarters on each side:

OK, you got me curious. I don't have a G70 but checked my G80. Three quarters fits easily in the front, two at the headlights. One difference, there is a rubber gasket around is so the gap is not open. .My car is dark blue and with the black gasket you really don't notice the gap.

I'm sure there is a specification for the fit, perhaps someone knows what that is. You have to allow for thermal expansion and flexing, of course but I have no idea what is reasonable.

Two very tight quarters on the driver's side and one and some space but not enough for a second quarter on the passenger side.

Mine has a 1.2 mm gap all the way around. Hood to fenders and bumper.

Noticed the same on mine. From afar, it appeared as though the hood was slightly open. Easy fix. Remove plastic cover, Loosen bolts on hood latch, then push it down, there should be a little bit of adjustment, re-tighten bolts. Hood should be more aligned. Takes less than 30 min.20191221_091851.webp

Really? I looked up the thickness of a quarter as 1.75mm and you can't even fit one quarter anywhere around your hood? Definitely not a Friday car! :D

Thanks for all the responses above! Since I have both alignment and height issues, I'll probably take it to the dealer to see what they can do.

The gaps on mine are a little uneven on both sides, but nothing crazy. I think the navy blue color of the car helps. The hood vibrates a tiny bit at triple digit speeds as the air gets under the gaps, but that seems reasonable. When I was buying the car, every single G70 on the lot had the issue...especially the 2.0 T models in Mallorca Blue (those had height issues as well). I chose my adriatic blue 3.3T over the same trim grey one because it had the most even gapping on the hood.

Just adjust it. Hood has adjustable mounts.

Are you referring to the same thing @mrcleeaan is above (the hood latch)? I wasn’t able to see where the bolts are for adjusting the latch. If there are more photos or a video, I’d appreciate it.

If the mounts are something different, do you think you may be able to provide a photo?

Thank you.

There is also some height adjustment. 2 rubber stoppers on the bottom front edge of the hood. Simply twist to increase or decrease height.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Be sure after adjusting the rubber corner bumpers you press down on the hood slightly to be sure they still touch and are functioning. You want slight amount of pressure on the bumpers so the hood doesn’t vibrate at speed.

has anyone noticed this gap above the headlights on both sides? Not sure what to make of this...

Yes, several cars are affected. Appears to be due to some weak adhesive that was used. I contacted Genesis USA about it last year shortly after I bought my car and they said I could take it to a body shop to fix and they'd reimburse me for it. I just left it alone for now since my car's still new and I didn't want a body shop messing with it. You could try contacting them to see what they say.

See my post here about it.

The panel gaps are big. Mine is three quarters wide along the front of the hood, two quarters (or a bit more) for the door and trunk gaps.
These are bigger than my BMW or my wife's CX-5.

Just noticed that my headlights are also unglued from the bumper. Thought it was part of the design as well, but then I pushed down on the bumper above the headlights and it moves a LOT. I wonder if this is dangerous, as water during car washes or rain can get into the headlight area.

Thanks @mrcleeaan for the heads up that it’s not part of the design.

My headlights also have a gap, and I can push down on the hood. However where the gap is, looks like little plastic air stabilizers. I can’t get an image, too small for my iPhone to focus on. Are we sure that is a design flaw?

Thanks for this. I couldnt find this post with a quick search. I would recommend everyone with this issue to visit their dealer and see what they say.

@AdriaticBlueG70 I don't think you need to worry about water.

I know exactly what you are referring to about the plastic air stabilizers. And yes, there is an issue with the adhesive. I saw some G70's sitting in the showroom and there was no gap at all.

Take a look at the picture I got from the G70 FB group page. Perfect fitment, no gap at all.Screenshot_20200428-201423_Samsung Internet.webp
