  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

can some one send me a link for removing the "H" and installing the wings, please?

I have a related question but do not yet own a Hyundai but am seriously considering. I am in SoCal and have not seen an awful lot of Hyundai Genesis Coupes or Sedans around yet but there have been a few occasions where I would see an attractive-looking car pass by and I would quickly look to try and figure out what it was but oftentimes I would see a winged badge on the trunk a la Bentley. I knew darn well that these were not Bentley's but could never figure out what they were. Once I started spending time at the Hyundai forums to research the Genesis I stumbled on to the fact that someone makes these aftermarket winged badges for Hyundai's.

While I believe the winged badge looks a lot better than the slanted-H, I would have mixed feelings about putting on a faux Bentley badge. For one thing, it sort of indicates that the owner is maybe embarrassed to have the Hyundai. I was curious about the thoughts of owners who went this route.

Thanks,

Doug

C'mon Doug, there are almost 50 automakes that use a WING, not just a Bentley. Does a Mini fool people into thinking it's a Bentley? No, of course not, and that's not the point.:) Nor is the wing emblem on the Genesis. Typcially a winged emblem just indicates "luxury" status.

You should also know that the winged badge is on the Genesis sold in Korea and is available as a part from Hyundai. The slanted H was placed on North American vehicles.

This is a ridiculous (non-) controversy and makes zero sense. The wing badges are not aftermarket and they are not "faux Bentley"; they are manufactured by/for Hyundai and are delivered on all Genesis' destined for the KDM (Korean domestic market).

Proof of this is the fact that the front badge has pins on the back that have to be cut off in order to install them on the hood in the west. Why is this? Because the hood of the KDM cars has holes for those pins; Genesis' delivered in the west do not have the holes in the hood.

For whatever inscrutable reason, Hyundai decided to use the H instead of the wing badges, and not to install a hood badge, on cars exported to the west. I don't think you'll find a single Genesis (2009 North American Car of the Year) owner who is "ashamed" to be driving a Hyundai. I doubt if any of us would have spent $35K + to buy a car we are ashamed of.

I did not wish to invite controversy but some of the responses seem mighty defensive. I do not believe there are lots of cars with similar looking winged badges (the only one that came to mind before someone mentioned the Mini is the emblem found on Chryslers). The thing that struck me about the badges I have seen on some Genesis is that the similarity to the Bentley badge is quite striking.

If Hyundai does have winged badges as standard on their non-export models, it is a shame they went with the lame-looking slanted H for the American market. They should just have established a single identity and stuck with it. It would be like Mercedes having the star for their European models and a big M for export, or BMW going from the propeller to a big B.

My point exactly

Hyundai has been selling "H" badged cars for many years in the US... so using the Genesis Wings logo would be a switch. Now if the wing logo had been used on all Hyundai cars since Day 1 then it would be like your Mercedes Star vs. "M" example.

Many of the folks, if not most, switched from the "H" logo to the wings on their own because the like the wings logo, not because they're embarrassed to drive a Hyundai.
