  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hopeful future Genesis owner.

Hello All,

I'm a long-time lurker, first-time poster and I am looking to purchase a Genesis in the next 6 or so months. First I have some questions that I hope you can help with.

What would be a good deal on a low-mileage certified Genesis? If you don't mind my asking, what did you all pay for yours? I haven't really made up my mind on which Genesis I should get. If I were to get a 2009-2011 Genesis, I probably would get the 4.6L, but on a 2012+ Genesis, I'm not sure the V8 would be worth the added cost. I would even be open to getting one new for the right price, but I don't want to spend more than $40K. I live in NJ, but I am not afraid to travel anywhere within the continental US for a great deal.

I'd also like to know what issues I should be aware of before I make my purchase. Any recalls or known complaints? How has Hyundai been in terms of resolving said issues?

Are there any modifications(performance or otherwise) that I should consider? Any I should stay fare away from?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few different "prices paid" threads in this forum. I bought mine 3.8 base in May 2012 for $28.4k before tax+reg in Southern California. I understand you can get that price or better if you find the best deal. Not sure how much different your area may be, but I saw someone in here saying they got the 3.8 base 2012 for under $26k.

With that said, I love the car and would go back in a second and do it again! Good luck

81k on my 2011 4.6 with tech. , a very solid reliable car. If I were buying used I would try to find a 2012 5.0 non r-spec (its rare) with tech pkg. It gives you the power but with a little better ride than the r-spec. Here's one under $40k http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?endYear=2012&zip=30601&keywordPhrases=5.0&photosOnly=true&listingType=used&listingTypes=used&sellerTypes=b&pricesOnly=true&mmt=%5BHYUND%5BGENESIS%5B%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&modelCode1=GENESIS&showcaseOwnerId=65543345&makeCode1=HYUND&startYear=2012&searchRadius=0&listingId=327224757&listingIndex=15&Log=0

Thanks! I'll search for those now. If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose the base Genesis over a loaded one?

My local Dealer had all remaining 2012 Genesis sedans on ad last week for $10,000 off MSRP. They have in stock a 2012 5.0 non R-Spec with a MSRP of $46,375. I looked at this week's ad and they aren't on there this week, but doesn't mean it isn't negotiable!

At the time I wanted to get into a '12 because the comfortable ride was the most important thing to me. Everyone had said (and I tried it) that the '09 - '11 ride was bumpier than the '12. So I had to buy new to get the most comfortable ride. Now, you could probably get a '12 CPO. I'd definitely try them all though to see what suits you.

As far as why I didn't get the loaded one, to get a '12 w/ premium/tech/etc. was going to cost me either $3000 more or $6500 more. I looked at it all and decided it wasn't worth the added cost. I took a 36 month 0.9% deal because the int rate was good and I wanted to just take the pain of the high car payment and get it over with.

I don't look back and wish I got a loaded model. This one suits me perfectly. Best value on the road I think. Also, if I decided I wanted Navi I could go for a Unavi X2 8" and preserve all of the OEM functions as well. From what I've seen it's about a grand to get it installed and it looks pretty much OEM. Better than $3000 extra.

Hope that helps. Just IMHO.

Thanks for the info. Which dealer would this be?

Thanks for the explanation. That's one thing I'll definitely have to consider. Your car didn't come with the Lexicon sound system, right? How does it sound?

For $10k off, I would have them swap those wheels onto the 3.8, or sell the wheels, and buy somebody's takeoffs who has went with aftermarket wheels. Hell, buy it and I will swap you; I like big wheels. :D

Hahaha. I like large wheels too, but 22s might be overkill. I can only imagine what it does to the ride.

Yeah I hear that; I think 20's would be better suited on a DD.

If you can find a 2012 on the lot, you can get at least 10k off. That'd put a fully loaded 3.8 at about 35k. Cannot beat that deal.

I bought a 5.0 NON R-Spec two weeks ago. Sticker was $46,600 and with the discount for the 2012 model the dealer offered $36,600 sale price, with 7% TTT out the door for $39,000 even. We wanted white and cashmere and found 7 using a dealer search so they are still out there. We only have 300 miles on it so far but is seems to ride nice and feels very solid.

That's a great deal. I am considering white right now. How is the up-keep?

Mines white. Looks kinda dirty about 3 days after washing. Not as much a pita as black though :)
