If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hot air in back A/C vent

SAFETY ISSUE: EXHAUST FUMES IN BACK A/C VENT
I experienced hot air coming out of the back A/C vent of my 2010 Genesis V6 during the summer, and wondered then if it might be exhaust fumes. With the heater on today I discovered that it is hot exhaust fumes - I clearly smelled the stinging odor of exhaust/gas fumes and felt the extra hot air coming out of the rear A/C vent. At least one owner has filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which I have copied below, and I will be filing a complaint also. I cancelled a trip planned for this weekend and will be taking my car to the dealer. If you are experiencing similar problems take your car to the dealer. The website for filing a complaint with the NHTSA is: www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS SEDAN I BEGAN TO FEEL DIZZY AND LIGHT HEADED. MY HEART BEGAN TO RACE AND MY HANDS BECAME NUMB AND TINGLY. THIS ALSO HAPPENED BRIEFLY YESTERDAY ( 8/1/11 ). UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A VERY STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. A FRIEND DROVE ME TO THE ER WHERE I DESCRIBED MY SYMPTOMS TO THE DOCTOR ON DUTY. AFTER DRAWING MY BLOOD, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY CO - CARBON MONOIXDE, LEVEL WAS HIGHER THAN NORMAL - 3 TIMES NORMAL. I HAD BEEN IN THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS TODAY. WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO A HOTEL, I HAD TO PUT ALL WINDOWS DOWN AND SUNROOF OPEN BECAUSE OF THE GAS VAPORS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO HYUNDAI OF NORTH AMERICA AND THEY ARE TOWING THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE. *KB

Yeah, that guy posted his story here.

So, I took my new red/cashmere 3.8 (w/premium pkg only) to the dealer last week. It was 4 days old then. I said, "Why are my cupholders as hot as bun warmers?" Yes, the rear vents were blowing VERY hot air too. In essence, what he told me is that the rear is a separate climate system that can blow heat, even though the front is in cooling mode. Is that accurate? It maka no sensa2me.

Okay, so I'm still curious if the rear vents have their own source of heat/AC. If not, how can the rear vents heat when the front vents are blowing cool air?

Mine are the opposite, they only blow cold air and do not throw hot air at all and temps. are dropping here in NYC.

Mine does the exact same thing. Weird.........I can have mine on HOT in the red area on the dial, and still very cold.

In the center vent in the back seat - no matter what I do - it's blowing hot air. And when I say hot - I mean SUPER hot. It's too hot to put my kids back there when it's blowing. Doesn't matter if you turn the dial on the vent hot or cold.

A/C is fine up front and in the side vents in the back.

The ONLY way I've been able to make it stop in the center back vent is to put the A/C on manual and crank the temperature all the way - past the degrees selection - down to LOW. It then stops spewing the hot air and doesn't put out any air at all.

I've called the dealer back - and they remember this happening on another Genesis they sold - but they don't remember how they fixed it.

Not seeing anything obvious in the owners manual.

Anyone have any ideas?
This is an issue that was reported when the original 2009 Sedan was introduced. I would have hoped it would have been fixed by now. In my case, the temperature wheel does in fact regulate the temperature in the back, but the hot setting is definitely hot!

Have a 2009 4.6 recently discovered this problem. Thanks for the insight.

The most annoying thing is that the manual is silent on this subject.

yep..I have the same crap from day one and the dealer said they changed the second unit because it had metal shaving in the AC COMPRESSOR of the second unit that runs the back..... ha,ha,ha.. no fix just more lies and a lot of bull from new york dealer,so I don't waist any more time with them anymore. ipod bad, nav unit bad, speakers on/off bad, etc. The electronics in my car is crap .... yes sometimes it works & sometimes it does not ..like it has a mind of it's own or how how or cold it is outside ....I'm in a lease and can't get out without a big loss, almost the same amount as keeping the car .....so I keep it and will never buy another Hyundai oh Hyundai did send me a $250.00 credit to use in a dealer to stop me from writing them letters & calling .... big deal I was told they can't fix the stereo system and go away !!! more or less ............ On the hot air in the back I was thinking about duck tape on the back as a fix to keep it on cool & cover the vent . MY radio panasonic 20 bucks works great on 4 AA batteries when my $5000.00 car radio does not......SO GUYS TRY SOME SILVER DUCK TAPE ANS SAVE YOUR TIME !!! GOOD LUCK IKEYM

Now I have noticed that I am getting hot air coming out of the front vents even though the HVAC is off. Getting a little bit warmer here in NYC so I don't need to have anything on.

This may help: make sure the AC is set to cool/low. Then turn it off. Your vents should now send cool outside air into the cabin, if you have it set to allow fresh air in. It seems to mimic whatever your last setting was when the AC was on!

This is still a problem for me. At times hot air blows from the rear vent regardless of setting. At other times, (almost daily now), the AC stops and very hot air blows from floor vents. I run it in Auto but I've tried all different settings. the only way to stop the hot air is to turn the temperature to "low". Very cold air starts blowing but as soon as you turn the temp up by 1 degree the heat comes back on. This lasts about 15 minutes.
