  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How did you get your first blemish and what did you say

I just found a small scratch on my trunk lid and I have NO idea how I got it. I little rubbing and it will be gone, but still caused an out loud "WTF".

Just wondering what others have face.

I had to have my Genny valet parked in Newport Beach, CA, for our company's holiday party last year (no option at many restaurants there). Didn't notice the dime-sized mark on the right rear rubber bumper strip until I got home. My reaction was also "WTF?"

My gennie is still "virgin" and I hate thinking about that first ding/scratch/blemish!:eek:

I know it's inevitable and WTF will not suffice to express my emotions when I find she has been assaulted. :(

Thanks for reminding me.......GRRRRRR!

I swing my Gen into the end parking spot in a shopping plaza and heard this grinding noise I said "Oh S..t"! The underside of the right front corner scraped on the curb. The Gen has a very low front road clearance I watch how I park from then on.

Pretty much the same thing, except the valet did it to my genny - Luckily, I noticed it sitting on the curb when I exited, or else i wouldn't have even noticed the damage....

Friday I found a large scrap the width of a ruler, 6 inches long on the bottom side of the driver's side front bumper. I must of scraped it on a high curb. Needless to say I was bummed and I called the body shop and it will in the shop on Monday and done at the end of the day for $75. All will be well again by tommorrow night

I found quite a few small rock chips on the front after a recent trip to the SF Bay Area. It sucks, but what can you do, other than install a clear bra? I do kind of wish I had waited for the pearl while color. I think it would hide paint chips better and in my experience white paint is easier to touch up without it being glaringly obvious.

You may be surprised with the quality of the touch-up paint. I can't speak for Hyundai, but, the touchup paint for my old Passat was just dead on. Came with base and clear coat. Same with my Volvo. It too has a base coat and a clear coat. The colors really match well. I would not be surprised if the touch-up paint offered by Hyundai for the Genesis is pretty good too. Stone chips are inevitable. I got one at the back of the hood...even clear bra would not have helped. Some good touch-up and all is well.

I have the white satin pearl - it is nice, but it blends like most other white cars on the road. I ALMOST opted for black as it looks best when maintained properly, but as I have OCPD, the wife forbade it. The last time I had a black vehicle, it didn't have much clearcoat left on it after I polished the swirls and other blemishes every month for 3 years. :D

Now I'm really pissed. I just noticed that someone has keyed the left rear fender since I wrote about the first ding just yesterday. It had to have happened when my partner took it to the grocery store yesterday afternoon. I had taken it to lunch yesterday and I always park where no one else is likely to park next to me and do a walk around before getting in it again. The scratches were not there after lunch and now this morning there are two long criss cross scratches. I could SCREAM! In fact I am SCREAMING1

Richard,

Take the Genesis to:

M & M Auto body
1208 NE 8th Ave
Fort Lauderdale, FL

954-467-1627 ask for Mike (owner)

Tell him Daniel (silver Genesis sent you

Excellent body work had to take my Azera there for body work twice.

Prices reasonable!!

My Genesis is in there now having the scrape on my fender fixed.

Good Luck!!!

Daniel

Hi Daniel, Right now I am in the middle of restoring a 1996 BMW 850Ci. It was in the shop for nearly five months getting mechanical work done. Now it's in getting new front seat leather and headliner. Hopefully it will go to the body shop in the next week or so. I have talked to the body shop on several occasions and they are expecting it. Actually they are working with the interior people and painting the sun roof or moon roof (never figured out which was which) while the interior people do their thing. When I actually take it over I'll ask about the dings on the Genesis. This body shop has worked on two other cars for me and they do good work.

The place is called Clancy's. Off hand, I don't know the exact address but I know where it is. It's near the main Ft. Lauderdale post office just off Oakland Park Bl. near Lipton Toyota. Maybe I'll take a look at M & M also. Right now we only have the Genesis between the two of us. I won't be able to do anything about it until I get the BMW back which may be six or more weeks. Every thing takes forever with this car. I think there were only about 300 ever imported into the US. There were about 7,000 840s imported but only a handfull of the 850s. I think they have to re-tool the plant in Germany every time a part is needed.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Sounds like you are spending some $$
Good Luck
Yes, already spent more than the blue book value of the BMW. But it is not actually possible to find one for sale at the blue book price. If you try to find an 850 for sale you will be lead to almost entirely 840s. They are pretty much the same car except for the engine. The 840 has an eight cylinder engine and the 850 has a twelve cylinder engine. I keep thinking that one day it will start to appreciate. Actually, I think it did go up in value in the last year or so. But it will take some time (probably about 50 years after I'm dead) before it is worth the original selling price.

It's anyone's guess how many are still on the road. Before getting the 850 I had an 840. It only took my partner four days to kill it. So that's one of the original 7,000 that I know isn't on the road any longer.

Thank goodness your Genny is back to perfect.

I parked my car in a supermarket parking lot. When I got back to my car, I realised a parking lot ding on my rear driver side door. I knew the crappy minivan driver must have done it, as it was parked so close. I always make a point not to park close to crappy cars, but sometimes when you are inside the store you have no control on whats happening outside.
I cried out loud in pain "WTF".
Does anyone know if the body shops can fix a small ding without needing a new paint job ?

Yeah, that's why I decided to put on door moldings, since tight, full parking lots and careless people abound out here.

Pretty much any body shop should be able to pull the ding out without too much hassle, depending on how dented.

If there is no crease at all to the ding, then they should be able to take it out. On my Accord, the wind or something pushed a cart into my fender... There is a ridge type contour that goes around the fender, and since the dent was there, there is no way paintless dent removal could take it out.

If it is not creased - they should be able to work it out. I paid about 90 dollars for a ding to be taken out. My Genesis has one door ding... I thought about having it removed..but I am afraid I will just get another and be wasting my money.

I also think they are easier to remove the *fresher* the ding - so I wouldn't waste too much time in removing the ding.

Take care,

Bob
