  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anybody had luck adding headrest tvs w/ nav-tv & running it all from the factory headunit??

A local stereo store sold me on the idea of being able to purchase nav-tv for my car & play dvds from my genesis headunit to my tvs (headrest) in the backseat. Now they're telling me this can't be done after ordering the parts & installing this stuff in my car. Please help!!!

There are a few problems with this. One is that the head unit doesn't allow the display of dvds while driving. There is a device that works around this, but if I recall it was about $300. I know the South Korean Genesis models have optional headrest displays, so it is possible, just how difficult it will be is unknown. I don't think anybody on here has done it yet. If you don't mind voiding the warranty on your head unit, you could have them take it out and find the video feed and tap into that. If you are lucky there will be an RCA port on the back of it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I already have the nav-tv installed which will allow the dvd to play while the car is driving. The tvs & headrests are installed to. They just don't know how to make them play from the headunit. I'm stuck!

I'm not familiar with the head unit or other components in the Hyundai, but I did work on the "infotainment" system in the 2003 model year Audi. These systems are not designed to allow the easy integration of third party components. I strongly suspect there are no industry standard inputs or outputs on the head unit which would allow the easy integration of back seat displays. Your best bet would be to install a DVD player separate from the factory unit to drive the back seat displays.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I had to go w/ a seperate DVD player installed under the passenger seat. It will push video the headrest tvs as well as the screen in the headunit. I can play from the DVD player or from my iPod/iphone.

Thanks for ur help. I still want to be able to play from my headunit/DVD changer when someone figures out hOw

What communications protocol do your new displays use? Analog using NTSC (old style TV - what many monitors used), digital ATSC (some new monitors), or a different digital signal? The Genesis "Tech" package head units can drive front and rear LCD panels - there is a separate output connector for a "rear LCD display." It uses Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) signals (totally different from the 1 volt peak-to-peak "analog" waveform used by older NTSC monitors, and different from ATSC digital monitors), formatted with the LIN protocol.

Nowhere in the DIS/Tech system will you find anything similar to the old style NTSC analog signal, nor a basic digital ATSC signal. I doubt you'll find anything similar to what would drive DVI or HDMI digital signals on modern computer LCD panels or modern digital TVs either.

The factory LCD displays are 800 x 480 pixels.

Sorry. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a video output from the stock head unit. I presume that's why the nav-tv doesnt have the yellow RCA.

what about tapping into the actual connection for the display. then just install Video In Motion. tapping into the display will display everything on the main das display, and VIM lets you watch videos in drive. just my $0.02

That's all well and good EXCEPT the main display input is likely proprietary and running the cables all the way to the back seat may cause problems with signal loss and degradation. It would be an interesting thing to try out, but this isn't the sort of project you want to get half way into and find out it won't work.
