  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How do i get rid of the smell when turning on the AC

The only way for your to get fumes smell inside is if something is leaking in the engine compartment, could be oil onto exhaust, engine could be over filled with oil and kick up into the intake and the AC picks it up. Could be a lot of things.
But a fuel induction service is never going to fix that problem, yes fuel induction work awesome but not related. This dealer you went to did offer you an AC system deodorizer or biocides ?

Really weird that you have to recycle air on and you smell fumes. Hard to believe but could be something in your hvac box. Do you leak water with the AC on?

Am sorry if this is not the same issue as main topic. Dealer never mentioned a/c system deodorizer or biocides. I'll research it more and possibly use independent mechanic. Just to be clear I am now using AC with recycle button. Recycle button has helped not to get any outside smell into my cabin. I do not get any fumes using recycle button. I do leak water with AC on.

I purchased a Fram cabin air filter from amazon..waiting for it to arrive at my front doorstep (although these guys sometimes leave in front of garage or even inside garage when open).

To review, i should take out the old cabin air filter, turn on the AC on high fan on high with recirculating on, open up windows and doors, spray lysol in the cabin air filter slot. Maybe wait a few minutes. Turn off AC. Wait a few minutes. Then turn off engine. Then put in new cabin air filter?

Spray the Cabin filter as well before installing it. Both sides. Did you find the route cause?

Where you located ? Yes recycle should stop all smell from outside unless it's strong, but it should definetly be something in your engine bay

The air filter finally arrived..in a green environment friendly looking box.

But, after my oil change and other service last week, the smell is gone. I did not ask them specifically to do anything.. I did notice the AC on full blast when i picked up the car since it was in the 90s that day..wonder if that pushed out the bad smell?

i guess i'll hold onto the filter for when it's due a chance. since it's cpo, it was supposed to have had the filter checked or replaced and i really trust hyundai's cpo standards. :D

You should check that filter anyways, but if you were at the dealer they should of checked it out for you already. But I can post a pic up of what I use for AC work, I'm telling you, this even gets rid of cigarettes odor.
