  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought a used car, and it appears the previous owner waxed the front windshield.

I always RainX my windshield, but need to figure out the best way to remove a coat of wax on the glass first.

Any suggestions?

A couple of washes with Windex will probably remove the wax. The ammonia in it will kill the wax.

I was having a lot of trouble with windshield haze (I think caused by an application of AquaPel) that I couldn't clean off with any product I tried. I got a bottle of Glass Polish from Griot's Garage and applied it with my DA polisher, and voila - the windshield is perfectly clean. I think you can apply it successfully by hand, but it takes some work.

Can of COKE- acid will remove wax- or the RAIN-X should as well.

Any glass cleaner with ammonia will do a decent job. Dawn might work too.

be aware that dish detergent often contains salt and small as the crystals are, they can cause scratching

Rain-X "should" get it off. After all, Rain-X removes all the other scum from the windshield, even the scum that forms at the end of a wiper stroke.
