  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

I'm at 100K on Genesis 2015 and replaced front brakes 3 times already in last 6 years, all within warranty period. Never had brakes last more then 2 years. Is it expected? Is there a specific brand I need to get to get to a better performance?

Yikes! I've had a 2015 5.0 for 4 years from 70K to 106K and haven't done any brakes.

I've had a Powerstop kit (Z23 Evolution Sport) installed on my front axle on my 2015 5.0 since 2019. The factory front pads were worn very thin by 37k miles, This current setup are slotted and drilled rotors with carbon fiber ceramic pads. I'm currently at 125k on those same pads and rotors. I actually didn't replace the rears until late last year. Nearly 90k miles on the front pads and rotors currently. I do some occasional aggressive braking and my miles are probably 70% highway. I had these same brakes on my previously owned Pontiac G8 GT with similar results and longevity.

It very much depends on how you drive and where you drive.

No one can give a definite answer. There is a way to make them last just about forever, that is to not use them. Drive slow and coast to a stop.
When I live in Philadelphia, I could use the brakes 5 or 6 times in a mile. Stop sign at every corner in places. Compare that to a highway drive where you get on the interstate and never touch the brakes for 200 miles.

Brakes are a wear item. Use them and they wear out. Driving habits matter too.

Ed...

That's a good one! Nearly spit out my Margarita.

Some folks here have some serious driving habits. I installed the Powerstop coated front rotors along with pads at around 60k. Original pads were down under 1/4". Rotors were starting to feel the shimmy when breaking hard. I thought I needed to bleed the system but the new rotors and pads made it feel like new.

Thanks. There is a bit of truth to it though. When I see the light ahead turn red and know I have to stop, I do let off the gas an coast. I see cars going full speed and then hard on the brakes when close. Helps with the mpg too.

My 2015 5.0 front stock brake pads were good to just over 80k miles(worn near the wear indicators) and my rear pads were only about half-way worn down in the same time frame.

mine last about 75k kilometers, front and back and I'm replacing rotors with pads. till now 2 times

Off topic. I'm also a current owner of G80 5.0 and former owner of G8 GT (an A-hole ran a red light less than a year ago). Nice choice of cars ;)
P.S. I do have z23 in mail for the front as well :D
