Maybe for now.. but it'll eventually suck you in. It already has with your post above! LOL.I love this forum.
There are the mods and go-fast people who "MOAR POWER-R-R-R".
Then those who seek how to make auto hold, auto brake, auto cruise, auto wipers and headlights and so on work for them.
Then the Not applicable, No Response, just here for the ride (me).
Ah see, I keep it set to 1-2 to stop those idiots from cutting me off for no reason. I couldn't discern much difference between those modes, but I'll have to try again. I assumed they were measured car lengths.
Im gonna have to try 3 bars as well. With the reaction time, do you find that fast means that it brakes you more quickly or more slowly than the standard or slow setting? So following up: @Mr. Incredible , those settings worked perfectly! Soooooo much more comfortable and smooth at 3 bars instead of 2 bars. Considering traffic is the only time I would consider using SCC, this is a game changer. Thanks!
Also played around with fast vs standard reaction time. I prefer fast

I agree, and get you moving a little quicker. Of course if you have the distance it to be short you’re going to be seeing a lot of braking in stop and go traffic.Largely the opposite actually. It just feels like it gets moving more quickly than standard.

Sure. Just ease up on the distance.Which was my biggest issue because it would brake pretty damn hard due to the short follow time/distance. I take it as a given that SCC will never be as efficient on gas or brakes as my driving (if I try, at least), but being jerked around by hard accels/stops was something that I couldn't look past.
Ok just did some testing on my way home. No idea what kind of drivers you guys have around you but...started on 3 bars, fast reaction. Holy spacing Batman, I was what felt like 10 car lengths and people kept jumping into my lane. Move it to 2 bars, it’s still following too far and now people are not only jumping in my lane but the cruise is having to constantly brake me further back. I don’t know, 1 bar seems to be the only one I can do that doesn’t cause people to jump in front of me. I am however liking the fast reaction time a bit better but more testing is needed
Are you consistently driving in the left lane?Ok just did some testing on my way home. No idea what kind of drivers you guys have around you but...started on 3 bars, fast reaction. Yes, which is why I don’t like a long follow distance since it’s the passing lane. I set my cruise for 75 which means I’m passing 90% of the traffic on the freeway and I’m constantly moving back out of the way for faster traffic. I guess my use case isn’t good for SCC, I imagine if I stayed in the middle lane and just chilled at one speed I wouldn’t have this issue. #fastdriverproblemsAre you consistently driving in the left lane?

The 3 second rule is what my dad taught me, and in the last 20 years braking distances have come way down, totally agreed. Of course that doesn’t mean we are tailgating, just to get ahead of thatSeems like you have the same gripes as me with SCC. I wouldn't bother using it at those speeds because it leaves a mile of gap, but it is useful in bumper to bumper slow traffic (now that I know the 3 bar thing). If traffic is moving at a decent rate, I want full control so I can pass people
The whole ___ seconds thing is a guideline, not a rule. Depending on your level attention, reaction time, and vehicle you have, you'll have a different number. I highly doubt the person who made that suggestion drove a sports car with massive brakes
So many variables from day to day with speed, closeness, and idiots behind the wheel. I've used it on trip where I could go 100 miles and never touch anything but other traffic situations it is pretty much unusable. You also have no control over the guy in the next lane that wants to be in front of you. Most times I use 2, sometimes 3 bars. Sometimes everyone is close, other times more safely spread outSeems like you have the same gripes as me with SCC.
