How low can you go?

Not ride height but the fuel gauge. How far can you realistically go after you get the low fuel notification? This is with a 5.0L Ultimate AWD.

Does the car give you a final warning? With my old Sonata 2.0T, there was a low fuel warning that told me to take my time getting to my favourite gas station. After that light, the gauge would blink which told me that I wasn't going to make it, get to the closest gas station ASAP.

Does the Genesis have a second warning that's more in your face than -- km to empty? I don't normally let it go down past 1/4 but sometimes life gets in the way.

If you really want to know, put a Jerry can in the trunk and go for a drive. Myself, I keep it above 1/3 almost all the time so I've only seen the low fuel warning a few times since I've owned it.

I've taken my 3.8awd to 0 miles a few times - but never more than 4 more miles after that. When I fill it - I still do not hit 19 gallons.

The most I've put into it was 66L but the manual says the fuel capacity is 20.3 US Gallons or about 76L. There should be at least 10L left by the time I get the initial warning. Nobody has seen another final warning? Kinda tempted to see what happens the next time I take time off.

It is supposedly bad to run modern cars till they stall from no gas, it does something bad to components of the emissions system and the fuel pump.

Yep, I wouldn't run it that low. Fuel flowing in the tank helps cool the pump. Air in the lines causes issues, including running to lean. Plus there is no gas to lube the moving parts in the fuel system. Also any small particles in the tank can wind up in the fuel system and cause problems, the least of which would be to clog up the fuel filter, requiring replacement.

So you sure you want to run it that low?

When the light comes on in my 4.6, the computer tells me I have about 50 miles, but then when it gets to about 30 miles it zeros out and blinks. I've never actually run out.

Yeah I've never liked scraping the bottom of the tank, I try to fill up shortly after I hit half-full. Luckily there's a Costco station 2min from my house

A few buddies always have extra gas in their garages, 10-20 gallons for 'just in case' (natural disaster or whatever). I've always said keeping both our cars between half full and full gives me an extra 10-15 gallons that I can safely keep with me at all times, haha. JMO

I have done that and eaten up the 30 miles + some and still was about a gallon shy upon fill up. Bottom line is when it zeros out, you can probably get close to 40+ miles out of her. Good to know if you are in a bind.

Recently on a trip back from Florida traveled 462 miles on a tank and miles left read 0 for about 2 miles lowest I’ve ever gone and not by choice. Still only took 17.7 gallons. Might have gone another 50 miles or more apparently.

Even if you can drive straight with the gas that low, as soon as you turn a corner or go up or down an incline/bump the gas may slosh around and uncover the fuel pump suction. I had this happen with a friend's early 90s Trans Am. We were trying to get to the gas station, and we were fine until he turned a corner. This was before anybody had a cell phone, so we had to walk until we reached the gas station (luckily we were almost there).
