How many have had their headlights flicker off?

Please, before I waste my money, is it headlight stalk, turn signal stalk? What is the part? Dealership quoted me for "switch" Is that the same thing? I am going to have to pay for this myself, as they can't repeat the problem, but since it's an issue of headlights going out, I feel that I need to fix it and not wait for Hyundai to figure it out. Thanks.

I would not buy any part until you know exactly what part needs to be replaced. Nothing worse than shelling out $250 and not fixing the issue. We had a similar issue in a Camry many years ago and it took them a month to find the issue. Come to find out it was a short in the wiring were it passes through the fire wall. Just my 2 cents

My bad fellas. I meant to include that it only happened when using the turn signals and in "On". Haven't noticed it in "Auto".

I always have my lights in the auto position and ever experienced this type of problem, but the other day while detailing my car I moved the switch to the headlights “on” position on the stalk.
I noticed that the slightest movement or pressure on the switch caused the headlights to flicker.
I suspect that there is a problem with the contacts on the switch.
From my experience I don’t think it would be hard to duplicate for the service writer or technician.

UPDATE: I took mine to dealer and even though I was not able to reproduce the problem for them, they considered it a safety issue. (Another owner had recently reported the same problem to them). On that basis they replaced the turn signal stalk. It has been 2-3 weeks since the replacement. I have kept the lights in the "ON" position since then to see if the problem returned. To date, it has not happened again. Problem solved? Maybe...

Problem solved, most likely. However, it appears that the underlying issue is not if the part will fail again, it's when.

Resurrecting an old thread here.
My 2014 Genesis headlights started flickering this week. On at least one occasion they stayed off until i touched the stalk. On other occasions they just flicker, typically when using the blinker.
This is with the switch in the "On" position.
I can never replicate the problem when i try.

I've read about it before. Just happened to me when traveling around 50mph on a dark, unlit road. To be clear, this is the issue with the lights going out when activating a turn signal. To be honest, it scared the ever living shit out of me because I couldn't see for about a second or two.

It happened for the first time to me week before last. I thought I had somehow tweaked the turn signal but then it happened again....and again. Car will be going into the shop real soon.

It happened to me. Dealer the next day. Switch and oil done in 1.5h total.

2011 4.6 had the switch/stalk replaced. no issues since.

I've had the same issue many times. In fact, it's getting worse and the lights are staying off for a longer period of time...longer than 15 seconds until I finally put the switch to Auto. The dealer can't reproduce the problem so they won't replace anything. Unfortunately it does not happen on command.

If you have a smartphone, record it happening and show them. Then explain how it is a safety hazard and if they don't fix it, you'll be contacting the NHTSA.

I bet they will fix it pretty quickly.

I just had my turn signal switch replaced under warranty for flickering headlights. It was a faulty contact in the stalk.

I would strongly advise anyone having the "turn stalk" problem to report it to NITSA no matter whether it has been repaired or not.

My dealer (not the one I bought the car from) refused to replace the stalk because "Hyundai does not have any complaints on that problem". From postings here it is not a one-of-a-kind problem and should be reported. If NITSA gets enough complaints they will file a notice with the manufacturer and require a recall if the problem is prevalent enough.

Since the problem only occurs in my car when I am turning a corner I am not sure how I am supposed to video the occurrence while maintaining control of my car. Hand held cell phone usage is prohibited where I live. Maybe I can just call in after the crash.

Perhaps a passenger can record it? Or mount your phone as a dash cam and record it? I'm sure neither of those are illegal.

So, I originally had my turn signal stalk replaced and it seemed to resolve the problem...until now Just happened again, and this is with a replaced stalk. So it must be a bad design or I have terrible bad luck to get two bad ones. Of course, my car just passed the 60k warranty.

UPDATE:

I took the car to Autonation Hyundai in Tempe first (the closest dealer to my home) but as they could not recreate the problem they refused the repair. I then called the dealer I bought the car from, Earnhardt Hyundai in North Scottsdale and they said bring it up.

Took two hours and the new stalk feels quite different from the old and, of course, no failures yet. Will report as I drive it.

I have been very impressed with Earnhardt North Scottsdale and would recommend them for both service and sales (with the normal and usual caution that I would give all potential buyers from dealers).

The only thing I could complain about, and it was my own fault, was that there were only two R-specs in the state at that time and he had both of them so I paid the price. But I went into the deal knowing that so can't blame them. As far as follow-up with post-purchase items, map reload and now this warranty item they have provided excellent service.
